What AK style release are you talking about? Magazine? There are magazines available with build in mag release. Pro mag. Or are you talking about safety, I am kinda confused.

They are called gungear now. Yes, $65 (out of stock), I have one of those, works flawless but you have to shave some material off the magazine catch.

Clean the cosmoline thoroughly. Especially the firing pin channel. Get a sight adjustment tool. Get familiar with how to zero it properly.

L - Aside from the 'sight tool' that firebat mentioned (and you have already ordered I think), the "wire-impregnated" pipe cleaners from amazon will help on the FPin cleaning. They're on sale now -https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B000W5R6UA?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1&th=1
And I used Varsol - Outdoors ! - to remove Cosmo, then 99% Alcohol (from Costco) to remove the Varsol residue.

Not at all. In the earlier 2000's you used to be able to buy a sealed crate of 10 for that. I recall one CGNer that put a glass top on the crate and used it for a coffee table.

The only way to 'afford' one is to find a "motivated seller". I see the FTs and 'regular issued' Nors on GP around $6-700 occasionally, and Russkies a bit less. The Chinese ones are Certainly a better deal with little or No shots fired. My last Russian had a bore that showed it wasn't cleaned much and lotsa Corrosive ammo used. My FT bore is still like a mirror (with a bit of stains )

For anyone looking top clean the cosmoline off - I was able to clean mine entirely with Ballistol, a brush and Simple Green and for a couple of the springs.

No need for harsh brake cleaners etc

Bed/shim the stock. Some may probably go further with fitting the front ferrule, etc. I've wondered if playing with different gas tubes/pistons might help. Gus Fisher from the USMC rifle team told me that just changing gas pistons in M14s used to dramatically change accuracy. No idea, never tested it on the SKS but have seen stock shimming work.

Course its still an SKS.

Would expect 4 MOA-ish and not really much better regardless of ammo. Give or take an inch. If its remarkably better you won the lottery.
