T/C singleshots

5 posts before me pretty much said the exact same thing.

the original question was:
"Is it just me or does anyone else think these are the most overpriced gun on the market? The price of one of the extra barrels in the SIR catologue $400 to $420 and what a joke. I can buy a Ruger 77 in the same book for $732."

my post is completely relevant to the topic and a direct response to the OP's question.
what relevance is your post?

So what does that have to do with a Ruger #1?

Sorry,

This does not look cheap. It is every bit as classic as a single shot can be. The barrels are not cheap, agreed, but the advantage of dropping in another barrel with nary a thought, and knowing that the POI will be the same as the last time you sighted it - definitely worth it.

I am a proponent of the McStevens 200 line, but a single versatile firearm that replaces a gun case full of calibres to cover the same applications - awesome:).

having a .243 barrel for a gun is significantly different than a complete .243. having 2 guns is having two guns - you have a backup if one fails, you have a loaner, in varminting you have something to shoot while your barrel cools, you have them ready to go instantly. having a second barrel for one action is a lot different.

and a single versatile firearm that replaces an entire gun collection seems to be a pretty bad idea from where i sit. wtf, i cant collect guns anymore just metal tubes? :)
please keep this info out of the hands of our wives and g/fs.

not many barrels over $300 either @ http://www.eabco.com/prohunter.htm

might help if you actually linked a Canadian site, not a US one.

everything.
so, are you getting ready to add something relevant to the thread yet?

The problem I have with the T/C's is the stock design is hell on recoil and the triggers are crap.

when is the last time you were in a situation where if your gun failed it would be a huge problem, you don't even hunt :) although you do like to post alot in the hunting rifle forum

Hit the nail right on the head with that one bartell. :)

who says i dont hunt?
i cant afford to go on expensive hunts where having a rifle fail would be a an epic disaster, but whenever i go out - even just varminting - i have an extra gun along JIC one has a problem. has one failed yet? no... but if something does happen i dont have to drive back 6-7 hours or sit around all day twiddling my thumbs. one recent groundhogging trip one of my buddies forgot his bolt at home and he sure was glad to use my spare gun.
ive never been in a varminting situation where barrel cooling is a factor either - in ontario i consider myself lucky to go through 2 boxes of ammo in an entire day. it does not make my point any less valid though.

and i loan out guns quite often - two are on loan to good friends right now. good luck giving someone your T/C encore barrel if they need a gun - maybe they can club their game over the head with it.
an extra barrel for a gun is not the same as having 2 guns. you cant simply say that 'one gun with 6 barrels takes the place of 6 guns' because it doesnt.

and i post in the hunting and sporting arms forum because this one has the most topics that interest me, and the general firearms forum is lame.

I guess if I was shooting a Tikka I'd bring an extra gun too.

we all got our opinions lads, i personaly think the thompson centerfire is a fine rifle, would i replace my whole collection with it no i wouldnt, however there is something to be said if a fella realy was on a budget this might be ideal, aswell there is something to be said for a guy, who wants the familure feel with all the types of hunting he might do ie the man with one rifle, imagine doing all your shooting with the same stock and trigger you would become a very confident and ethical marksman every hunters responsiblity.

youre quoting US prices on barrels - which require a State Department issued export license - at a 1:1 ratio from a company that doesnt even ship outside the US and im the clueless one? :slap:

International Orders - Sorry, we do not ship outside of the USA. We can not use any billing OR shipping addresses that are not in the US. If you use a billing or shipping address that is not in the US the order will NOT be processed. For details as to why click here International Orders - Terms and Conditions

I only have limited experience with a TC Encore (fired one w/ .300 WM barrel on it) but I did like it. I thought it fit pretty good, it was accurate, and had a nice trigger, for being bone-stock from the factory.

Would I own one?...yes, Would I use one with many barrels to replace all my other guns?...no.

Apparently the CFC has not fully understood the multi barrel gun concept. I know people who have had problems with registering the barrels. Anyone else hear this?
