That would certainly would solve the short COL of these Rem 600 box magazines. Unfortunately I'm more of a wood worker than a steel fabricator....:) LOL

There are custom boxes like a Wyatt or similar you can buy now. You would still have to fit them, but less fabricating. - dan
 
I tried forming 350 brass from 338 brass (I had a lot of the latter) just as an experiment. It worked. Imperial Sizing Wax is your friend when doing this. Ran the 338 brass into the 350 dies with the recapping pin/neck sizer out. Run it in, and trim, repeat until it is the correct length. I screwed up a couple figuring out my process. Yes, the necks did need reaming. It works, though it's a pain. I ended up with 10 usable cases out of 15 or so. I have more than enough to last me until I'm dead. I also shoot a 6.5 Rem Mag, same story. - dan

I figured one might be able to form 350 brass from 338, like you say with the de-capping pin and rod removed.....:)

It sounds like a lot of work to accomplish though!....:(

I'm thinking I will keep buying brass and ammo when I can find it!....:) This can take time, but being retired, I have nothing but time.....:)

I used to have a Remington Model 660 in the 6.5 Remington Magnum caliber. I loved that one too! Unfortunately my X-wife stole that one, some how she figured it was hers when she left!........:ROFLMAO::oops::LOL:

There was a time I owned a half dozen 600/660's. I tried all the aftermarket bottom metals. Willy Manning (Coquille Valley Machine Works ) makes the best 600 bottom metal ever. An exact copy of the factory one, but in aluminum. Sold the steel ones and fitted all 6 with the ones Willy makes. On top of it all, he's a really nice guy! He's got the border properly figured out as well. ;)1774144028420.png

Slightly off topic ( and dont hate me for the content :p)

I have actually sent that guy on Gun post about 100 350 brass, to be necked down to .308 and anealed. I have a 6.5 remington 600 that i had rebored to .308. Now I have a short action 3006 essentially.

Now my questions is, what are the chances I wont need to neck ream, inside or out??

He measured them, and they are all within spec, actually the nosler brass are a little thinner believe it or not. And I was just going to get some 300 win mag turned into the wildcat cartridge, until I saw the cost of brass these days. It was cheaper to convert the 350 brass i have. I dont think people would pay be 3-4 bucks for a once or twice fired 350 case, and the 300 win mag brass i saw for sale was 4-5 bucks a empty case. Just insane

And I have owned 3 of the 6.5. They are rare and hard to come by when you are looking for them. When youre not looking for them they are everywhere.

I looked for 10 years for one, finally gave up and imported it. Then bought 2 more in canada a month after I imported the first one. Just gotta be patient I guess.

And to clarify i bored it out to 308, so I have what I like to call a 300 Remington Magnum lol. Sadly the Smith stamped it .308 Remington Magnum but whatever

I wont lie, it hurt to rebore that gun, but it would have cost more to have a whole new barrel made with the same contours, replicated markings and the addition of the vent rib. Plus instalation, timing and head spacing.

The way I did it cost me the gun (1200, screaming deal) plus 500 for the rebore.

I did consider rechambering a 308 remington 600 barrel, but it was going to cost 2-300 for a reamer (which i did have custom made before I changed my mind) plus the cost of having it timed and headspaced to the spare action I had. Plus the cost of a stock, vent rib, sites and trigger. Oh, amd I also had to have the bolt face opened up for the magnum cartridge, which required a near unobtainable remington magnum extractor and rivet. And after all that, the 308 barrel is way less beefy than a magnum barrel, and I was worried it couldn't withstand the magnum chambering.

I had a number of shot out or Bubba'd 600/660's rebarreled over the years. I eventually ended up with a fluted 223, a pencil barrel 7-08, a 22-250 and a 20-223 AI lazer. I had the most fun with the 22-250 actually. STUPID accurate. Slayed so many coyotes I nicknamed it Bang Flop.............
 
So I contacted Barnes directly, and asked a very knowledgeable and friendly bullet tech named Alan....:)

Alan stated I definitely can use their 200 grain TTSX bullet, part #30461. I'm going to try IMR3031 powder at 51.0 grains. He recommended I go up in half grain implements to watch for excessive pressure. (hard bolt lift, flattened primers, or ejector marks)

I'm going with a COL of 2.825", this length will easily fit in my overall box magazine length of 2.855"

Although I will be trying Hornady's 200 grain FTX bullet with IMR4320 as well, and the Speer 250 grain SP Hot-Cor with IMR3031.

These three bullet types will give me plenty of choice.

I was disappointed that hoytcanon never commented, but I will PM him directly as I know he is a huge 350 Remington Magnum connoisseur.

These days with the SAUM, WSM and PRC it doesn't make sense anymore but I always wondered why there weren't viable wildcats or commercial cartridges built on the Rem .350/6.5 mag case back in the days?

There were many wildcats. I recall a Shooting Times article that had the 6.5/350 case necked down and up to 22, 24, 25, 270, 280, 30, 338, 375 and 416. I've owned the 7mm and tried most of them. It's basically a 30-06 AI in capacity. Ballistics are similar. - dan
