The dogs that I have hunted with on deer stayed close as I used them for their nose, not for their teeth....the dogs that I have used on pigs were used to pull the animals down and to lug them....different game, different rules.
But the same applies with my dogs....if they are off the porch they are feral.
Who said anything about teeth? Dogs are used here for their bark, not their bite. For the most part, by the time the dogs get to my watch, I'm already gutting the deer.
At my camp, without a dog to get things stirred up, you don't see anything, cause most of the bush you can't see 40yds in front of you. Our dogs don't run down an animal and kill it, they just stir up the crowd a bit. Sometimes it works great, other times the deer is long gone and the dogs still running in cirlces.
