There is peening to the rear of the ejection port as the brass is ejected from the rifle. Like the original FN FAL or SIG SG540 design, brass also hits the upper receiver behind the ejection port since there is no brass deflector as seen by the light marking under the magnifier mount. For some drills, I had the magnifier flipped to the side and brass visibly marked the mount indicating that the brass is ejected about 4:30 to 5:00 in the original 16" barrel configuration. This confirms that left handed users will experience some "teething" issues. But there are videos online of the rifle ejecting in the 2:00 range so it really depends on each individual rifle I suppose.

There appears to be plenty of meat in the receiver there to put a bolt on shell deflector. It might even save the receiver from being peened?

They appear to carve from billet aluminium. Machining a deflector would waste a 1/2 or more of material off that whole side I would think.

Lots of brass deflector options out there. Shame they didn't just quickly add a drill/tap hole and add one there though.

Someone on this side of the border made a deflector for the Kodiac, this should work (or something similar)... here it is:

I wonder if I should still be looking at getting a Makasi, let’s just say I didn’t think long enough before putting a rifle on layaway and now I have a decent amount of store credit. Only thing I was able to find that was interesting is the Makasi.

That’s a very thorough and well written review - nicely done. I have one on pre-order and I’m not concerned about the issues noted by the OP. I like to tinker and fiddle with my gear so that it suits me. I’m hoping that if successful, they import the 7.62x39 version - I had a 181c camo dipped for deer hunting, and sadly it now belongs to the federal government and I need to fill a few calibre voids in my collection.
 
There is another short video, 313 Operator on Youtube, comparing Makasi and Carmel. Both restricted barrels. Only issues with it was the charging handle peening and the cross bolt gouging the barrel nut as previously seen. Both completely reliable.

The 15 meter instagram operator wont even address the multiple production failures that have not been fixed in over 3 years since the MK-15 entered the market yet still proclaims it is the better rifle...

People spent a few grand and are in complete denial of what is in front of them but at least they are supporting firearm businesses. :)

to be fair its the one he picked because he liked it best but thought both were good rifles.
 
Anyone get an update on dates yet? When I asked last week the person on the phone had no idea or timeline.
