When will 7.62x39 get any (new) love?

Makasi makes a version in 7.62x39
If they get the issues sorted with the 556 one I am hoping they bring the 7.62 one up to Canada in the future
And yes the Bren 2 was made in a non restricted version

Thanks I didn't know that. Had seen replacement barrels but I hadn't wanted to buy a Restricted and then put an NR barrel on it.

Wish I'd seen that they came in NR but snooze ya lose
 
I think when they make new semi auto rifles in 7.62x39 they should also offer them in 22 ARC, 6mm ARC, and 6.5 Grendel, since they are all based off the same case, same action length. And I think they would sell an absolute pile of them.

I know personally, if there was a modern rifle, legal in Canada, offered in 6.5 Grendel. It would quickly become my go to hunting rifle.

Yeah, pretty sure they all came into Canada as restricted and then some dealers installed the NR length barrels after the fact.

Honestly? Dunno. Never really got scientific about it. I'd say probaly around 2 to 2.5 inches at 100yds?

Probably not very cool to admit this, but I'm the kind of shooter where, while I shoot a lot, Im more interested in wether the rifle can reliably put holes in a deers killzone, or center mass of a zombie shaped target, then Im all good lol

If you mean your SKS, it sounds like where they become reasonable lol. And 2 MOA miraculous.

Either way, perfectly acceptable use hahaha. Let none tell you uncool.
 
^ Yes, 2MOA with an SKS would be a miracle w/o major surgery. He was 'asked' about RAR, and my R-Ranch in x39 gets MOA out to 175 off a bench - all I can shoot locally.

Good thing I still got a couple full crates kicking around for emergency purposes
No way I’d spend 700 plus on surplus corrosive, I would just reload my own for less and it would be non corrosive

Same. A modern sporting rifle in 6.5 Grendel would be a massive game changer for my hunting.

The 7.62x39 cartridge still has a lot going for it in the Eastern deer woods. It’s a legal calibre for whitetail and black bear, while the .223 is not.
With an effective lethal range for deer up to ~150yds, it doesn’t quite pack the punch of a 30-30 within 75yds, though it’s damn close, it surpasses the 30-30 for 150yd shots.
Bigger bullet than .223 better in the woods, and almost all factory ammo is 123-124gr so easy to find something that will work.
I find Winchester, Hornady, PPU and S&B all hit within ~2” at 100 without dialling the scope in for each load.

Plinking ammunition is cheap (Norinco Red box), although .223/5.56 can be found at the same price these days. Surplus corrosive is obviously even cheaper, and more accurate than Red box or m855, but not everyone wants to shoot corrosive.
Regardless, for a deer legal bore size out east, 7.62x39 still has the cheapest ammunition available.


Back to topic, one of these in 7.62x39 would be nice, if a little pricy.

Morp et al - In NB Any Centre-fire calibre is legal for 'big game' now, has been for several years. I just confirmed in 2026-27 Hunt & Trap, page 12. Rimfire is legal for Small Game, Bird and Varmint. The Centre-fire reg assumes that one can hit what they're hunting, a big assumption considering what I see at local range.
PS - I have a Ruger Ranch in x39 that's good for MOA out to 200-ish . . . tho I wouldn't try that far offhand. Most of the hunting areas here don't have that long a range anyway.
