My Norinco Type 97 Shorty - Range Report Post # 80!!!!

I will have my mount Monday and will start on the redesign. With the new one you will drop the mount down over the built-in rail and push it forward to the recoil shoulder before snugging the bolts. The dovetail cut will not pass end to end , the design will have basically a machined pocket with an interupted pattern on the bottom of the mount that matches the cuts on the built-in rail.
Clear as mud? :D

should work great! :dancingbanana: A sighting channel is a must.

That "wall in the front" is the recoil stop (lug) for the rail.
I think someone was asking earlier.

The part of the scope assembly that matches that rail
has the same pattern of the rail, but inverted.
So, it goes down thru the notches and slides forward
few milimeters until it is against the recoil lug.

Deckard may want to translate this in french :D

If you tread on Lector's explanations and ideas, at least ask him or PM him about additional detail. Hopefuly he will eventually answer. So far, it looks like what you want to do will be doomed like 3 other other guys's attempts whose "designs" were pretty weak.
Lector made the mount for the 308 variant and it holds the Leica NV system that is much heavier than what most people would put on their 97.

Urban Ops designs rails - check out his website (StormWerkz). I think his idea is right on the money..and if you read it carefully sounds like lectors explanation. I can't envision a better way to do it. I would hardly call it treading on Lectors "idea"...Lector simply gave an explanation of the mounting system, which was designed by a chinese engineer I would guess.

Wow...Looks like my competitor is a pro.

Well my design is the easiest, just 2 more screws, hehehe...

4 screws will be strong enough.

Michael

yep, we need to see that! actually a picture would be really nice.

There is enough space in the front to mouth a 2" picatinny rail on each side. Just like the Cx-4 Storm.

Hey NEMO - how did you attach that laser (or flashlight - it;s hard to tell) to the side of your 97? Did you attach a picatinny rail? I just noticed that there was something different on your gun when I took a look at your video.
That's my OTAL laser!;)
I only put rail on one side!!
