It's a real good Calibre and Cartridge

A 375 Whelan Short, Super Magnum will beat that 30-30 and skin a coyote in one operation!

I have a nice 94 angle eject. It has shot a few deer in the last couple years. Only problem, I havent shot it in 4 years. lent it to a buddys kid !! Great to see a few young guys hunting. He now has some money from after school work, & wants to buy. Already found a replacement. Fun gun and I can pretend I'm a cowboy-LOL- AJ

my brother is going to have a scabbard that he'll have over his shoulder when he's out hunting, he says.

I'll just have to make sure he has a nice tactical vest or something so all his supplies are on the front so it'll sit comfortably...or get a nice pack that lets one be installed easily.

Yup, cast bullets and the 30/30 it doesn't get any better or more real, shoot all you want, practice off hand/kneeling shooting, and it won't break the bank and you'll never wear out your barrel. Try that with a 30/378 WSM TSX Magnum, you'll come home sore, poor, and needing a new barrel.

I carried a 1957 Win 94 in .30-30 when I was a preteen before I graduated into a .30-06. I never took an animal with it. I ended up inheriting it from my father and I take it to the range on every trip. It's in great shape and it will not ever leave my family. My dad took game with it I believe.

Can't argue with you the 30-30 is effective, however not one of the best rounded cartridges in my eyes but 100 yearsplus ago i bet is was the one to have followed.

Its a slow moving 30 caliber bullet, what else is there to say?

I have a couple and used them for years, my old man still carries his.

Its proven, tested and true, the 30 30 is a good all around game rifle, for deer, caribou, moose. I think the not well rounded part is more about speed and distance.

Dependingon where you hunt has a lot to do with it as well.

My marlin is my best rifle. Why? I know my gun,it's range, it's capability.
I can shoot a coyote at 200 yrds with it. I have no problem with moose at 150 or so, deer the same, and acribou the same. My range is rarely beyond 250 so I'm happy. I crawl around a lot, trough trees, up cliffs, etc etc.
It is just right for not getting caught in stuff. Because of th relatively low recoil, my second shots are pretty good.

Dead is Dead in my book. as long as it is humane, dead by x is as good as dead by y.
While the comparison might not be dead on, this is mine:

A mitre box has cut a 45 for years and years.
Now, a mitre saw does the exact same thing. Perhaps with less effort, and a bit more speed. However, the result is a 45.
