Shootin deer in Saskatchewan with .223

most provinces state a minimum of .23 calibre...meaning usually min. .243/6mm...but check just your hunting regs just to be sure.

You can also use a 25-20. That is what I shot my first deer with 40+ years ago. Not the best choice. I believe in Alberta the cartridge has to be a certain length. That eliminates the pistol type rounds. .357 mag,44 mag, etc. Unless things have changed in Alberta. Shooting deer with a .223 can be done but I would opt for a bigger caliber. There are sooo...many out there...ST...

Yup, that was the best part about Winchester's Super Short Magnum. Those cartridges forced the Gov't to change the rules eliminating the minimum cartridge length and allowing the use of pistol cartridges. Kyler, buy a bigger rifle.

"...Caliber restrictions are silly..." You're trying to apply logic where none exists. Mind you, having a calibre restriction for deer isn't a bad thing. Prevents the hunter who doesn't reload from buying whatever factory .223 ammo that's cheap. Most factory .223 is loaded with a varmint bullet. Mind you, the same thing can happen with a .243.

But it doesn't prevent someone form using a 9mm carbine...

It does happen with a 243, just ask the guys at WSS in S'toon. Seemed to be their "thing" a few years ago to shoot deer with a 55 grain ballistic tip, even suggesting it to customers. Not my top choice of bullet selection but hey, whatever works for ya.

Yes they have, these centrefire pistol rounds, and 7.62 X 39 all legit in Alberta for big game now.....including the WSSM rounds.

Been so for about three years or more.
