Would a change from a folding stock to a fixxed stock make it NR? What's the barrel length & OAL?

Barrel length is 8.86 inches, apparently, although it looks longer to me in the pictures; OAL is 18.5 inches with the stock folded and 29.13 inches with the stock extended. Overall weight is 4 lb 3 oz, which is quite light for an SMG. It'd have to have a pretty ungainly barrel to make non-restricted--here's a 'shopped up version:

I was on the Norinco web site last night and it lists the type 79 as one of their available small arms so they must be making new ones...

We spoke to them last night. They have not been made since 92. They would need a large order to make a civie version. So it looks like a no-go.

All that bolt action stuff is limited production and very expensive. You will not likely find anything on the net that we haven't already discussed with them about importing and either are importing it eventually or have decided against it.
