The TAVOR

tar 21 is a great all around rifle. (maybe need a lighter trigger but i am happy)i been at range every day until this friday,(lethbridge range is the best one ever). i went trough about 1000 round and able to do 2 ins group at 100 yr with open sight. what can possibly you want to ask for a rifle.try that with car-15.

Glad to see that you are shooting the Tavor again. I may see you at the Lethbridge 3 gun.

Kobra EKP-8-15 Sight vs mepro 21

Any thoughts about the Kobra as a replacement for the mepro?

Is it possible to buy one without a reflex sight ? I already have more than enough optics ...

I think that's what a lot of people are waiting for. I would have considered one without the optics. The optics are expensive and haven't received stellar reviews. It's also easier to justify the cost if you can break it up a bit ;)

The battery life of this thing is ridiculous! 100 hours??? You will be better served by an Aimpoint CompM from 10 years ago.

As well, beware the KO trap...they burned me for a substantial chunk of cash....the most EXPENSIVE side side mount 'rail' ever bought.
This after 2 decent transactions with them, and no response from their 'customer service'.
Just my pet peeve, after many $1K's internet transactions- the only e-tailer I've ever had problems with.

Stick with the Mepro- It's a great combat sight- you won't be disappointed.
It does what it is designed to do, get hits on man sized targets, at min 100m's from unskilled 'marksmen'. If you are consistent, you'll get hits on a Figure 11 target, at 500m, with this sight...Ghost999 would be able to comment more fully on this aspect...

The Mepro disappoints me. I will be putting my eotech, Elcan or Acog on my Tavor as soon as a rail is available for purchase. As far as I am concerned the thing is garbage beyond 50 yards. If it were a range only gun I probably wouldn't care about shooting farther but this is a non restricted firearm and I want something I can shoot gopher sized targets comfortably at 100m and beyond. The mepro can't give me that so I will go with something better.

When I went for my first gopher shoot last week in Sask. I took Tavor SL8 22lr and shotgun.Walking around with shotgun was alot of fun but after about 200 rounds in 2 hours my shoulder was done.Looking back I should of spaced the shotgun rounds out a bit but I was like a kid in the candy store:D. Then went to tavor but couldn't hit anything past 50m and was lucky to hit them that far.The 22lr with 25 round clips was the most fun(because it was cheep I think). It wasn't real accurate but they were stupid enough to wait for a second shot usually:D. The Sl8 wouldn't miss up to 100m and would hit most out to 200m.It just has the Bushnell 3200 tactical on it.I put my Tavor on the EE only because I will have to spend another $1000 at least for optics and $200 for left hand bolt.It has the really cool factor but I think the SL8 is cool enough

A friend was kind enough to bring me out to the range today in hopes of lifting my poor spirits, thank you B, I was smiling for hours even afterwards in the evening :)

My thoughts on the Tavor:

The Meprolight is great if you have enough ambient light to illuminate the dot. ie I was at an outdoor range with overhead roof, no clouds and a sunny 27* day. In the shade of the roof, the Mepro was completely washed out against the targets in the open. The dot was dim and I had to continuously check it's location by moving the sight to a darker area down range. Standing in the sunlight worked well.

The dot is abit big at long range (My friend brought this to my attention) Kind of obscures the target abit and not that good at 50 (but we tried)

No slamfire during 2-300 rounds between the two of us.

Handling, balance, shooting, all like a dream. Almost no felt recoil, I could've shot that thing all day. Like someone giving you a sharp "shove" in the shoulder.

There is a letdown however. The trigger. This is what almost ruins the experience completely. It is abit on the heavy side and has what I would consider abit of gritty creep before it breaks. You can hear the grit as you are pulling the trigger through your cheek when aiming. It was, at times, difficult to keep on target, as this was my first experience with a bullpup. Perhaps the creep might be inherent to it's design?.

This is a fantastic gun considering what you are getting and what you are paying. If someone can work on that trigger and get that to break clean (like a Swiss arms) it would catapult this rifle on top of the heap.

What kind of protection does the Tavor feature in case of a catastrophic failure?

I found this on another forum on the topic of the SAR21 (different bullpup design).

Since its bullpup configuration leaves the shooter’s face very close to the chamber, STKinetics has thoughtfully designed a protective ceramic plate into the stock, along with an overpressure bleed hole in the chamber, to protect the shooter’s face in case of catastrophic failure.

Does the Tavor have something similar?

Cyanide Ride,

Your displeasure with the trigger is something many feel is the weak part of the system. However, the Tavor was designed and is employed as an INFANTRY COMBAT RIFLE. It was never intended to be a target rifle capable of printing impressive groups. Making hits on humans is the name of the game. If tight little groups is the desire, the Tavor is not the rifle you want.

Wildbore,

But some people don't pay taxes... In general though, I was trying to be sarcastic. Next time I will use the
