Kel-tec is not going to make special 18.5" barrels just for a few hundred Canadians. You'll either get the 18" restricted model or the 24" (and hopefully) non-restricted model.

You'll need to provide a source for that claim.

The first person in this thread to mention 18.5" barrels was Dangertree (Who just so happens to be the guy importing them).

That was my opinion. Do you really think Kel-Tec is going to retool and make barrels 1/2" longer just for us? If they could or would, that would be great. The Kel-Tec guys were talking in the KOG forum and they were saying they won't be making the longer barreled models for several months. Popular opinion is because they wanted to make all the parts before Obama could ban them. This way even if they weren't actually put together they could still sell them.

Why not?
Robinson Arms builds an 18.6" barrel for Canadian XCR rifles.
The Chinese tooled up for a slightly longer barrel for the Type 97A that CanadaAmmo is now importing.

We have well over 30 million people in Canada, about the size of California. Haven't you seen ads for CA legal stuff?

None of them can be exported at all without some retooling.

Really? I didn't know that. I figured the only thing that had to be changed would be the magazines, and they could be pinned here. Do they have to stamp the receiver with French wording? Seriously though, that's interesting, what needs to be different?

I'm guessing something to do with the flash hider.

It's likely a "weapons of war" designation issue from the US DOS, similar to the changes AR makers have to make in order to be able to export from the US. Probably has to do with the type of flash hider, grip, stock, etc.

Kel-tec made sure to advertise these as "sporter" and "target" versions. About as friendly sounding as you can get. Hopefully, it works.

They've spent a lot of time to do this right and we gave Kel-Tec a lot of input to Canadian Legal Requirements as well as US Export requirements (the ever changing world of...).

Most of the current legalities are with specialized paperwork requirements for these, and ensuring the best possible configs.

FRTs have been issued for Restricted and Non-Restricted Versions.

That's awesome that they have been willing to work with Canadian rules and regs this way. I'm gonna send off an email thanking them for their work.

FRT's have been issued?!?! WOW.

I think I pretty much read this whole thread, and I searched it, but I didn't find magazine capacity. Will it be limited to 5, or will it use a "pistol" magazine with a 10 round limit...?

I feel my wallet getting thinner already if it will accept a ten rounder...
