I got mine today, the box clearly had "Signature Required" checked off on the box, but the Canada post guy just dropped the gun off in front of my house.

Good job Grtwhthntr, that looks awesome...

Mine is at the post office and I wont be able to pick it up for a week... going on vacation...was so hoping to get it before we left.

That is amazing, the sticker on my box that says "signature required" was huge, there is no way it could be missed by someone with average eyesite.

Hey Grtwhthntr,

Since you are going to make another grip, how about you do a step by step, DIY guide with pics? You can start a new thread. You could also do a step by step for bluing as well if you have pics. I'm sure a lot of us would benefit from that.

First off, thanks to everyone for the compliments, was a fun project. I will attempt to do some step by step pictures of the second grip as I make it, maybe today even.

The gun actually does have somewhat of a bronze tone to it, probably by accident of this being my first attempt at bluing, but I like the color and the way it turned out. What I did was file/sand all of the metal down bare, wiped it off to make sure there was no left over grease/fingerprints, placed the part in the oven at 200F for about 15 minutes, removed and immediately brushed on Birchwood Casey Perma Blue. It will turn it into what looks like a black/rusty piece of junk, but then you "card it off" (I was told that is what the process is called) with fine steel wool. You actually think you are removing all the finish but each time you blue it it darkens some. I would like to have had enough of the stuff I could have dipped it in blue straight from the oven, would have made the finish more even, although its not too bad the way it is. Don`t know if I did it right or wrong but it seems to have worked, the bottle of blue I have has no english on it so there were no instructions.

Thanks for the comp. I imagine I will be hanging onto this one for awhile, represents about 20 hours of my life so far, too big of investment to ever be recoverable financially but invaluable educationally speaking.

I'm not sure about the "blue in a bottle" solutions but I know that part of the original rust blueing process was to boil the final product in water. That turned the brown tones to blue. Perhaps this is one of the steps for your blueing solution that you weren't able to read? Maybe use what's left to try blueing a bolt or some scrap of steel and then boil it to see what happens.

Either way it came out great and if the pictures are showing the bronze'y tone correctly you've got a nice and unusual gun there.

Just got mine in the mail today... I ordered 2 and received one of them... The other one is still MIA, but the issue should be resolved shortly.

First impressions: Nice looking pistol, much nicer than the pictures on the CanAm site, lol! :p The thing feels quite heavy and well built and there doesn't appear to be any sharp cutting edges as some have claimed. I took it apart, cleaned it, reassembled it and all my fingers are still there. ;)

Some things I have noticed after playing with it for a while:

1) The extra safety is completely redundant; if you #### the pistol and release the hammer slowly, then pull back on it to lock it just one notch, the internal safety is engaged (slide and trigger locked), just like on a single-action revolver. This solution is much more 'safe' than the added red and white aftermarket safety (not to mention much nicer esthetically, because there's nothing visible on the outside). The aftermarket red and white safety lever can be easily removed, by the way: just unscrew the two little screws and pull the lever clockwise until it falls out.

2) The slide is very difficult to pull back (as many have reported), but here's a little tip: When loading the pistol, insert the mag into it, #### the hammer to the full-#### position and then pull on the slide. Tada! Now it works with at least 50% less strain!

3) The slide spring is a b*tch to reinsert after field stripping and when putting the pistol back together. Be careful, that sucker has a mind of it's own and is truly "flight-capable"!

4) Reading the user's manual is like watching a brief comedy show, lol! Grab a beer, coz you're in for some laughs. :D

Overall, a very nice firearm for the price and I'm sure it will do very well at the range as well. There are some things in life that I wish I hadn't bought, but this is definitely not one of them. Thanks CanAm!

invite me over for a viewing. :p

You can come over whenever you want man... just let me know when :D

Side note:
I've purchased everything I need to polish this gun. I might start at it later today (inbetween finishing work and going to volleyball).
I'll post pics as I go along for anyone interested.

Got mine yesterday.Ditto on #3. I was starting to think the damn spring was possessed. Also I noticed the mag well spacer appears to be just pressed in and was quite loose at the top. The barrel bushing on mine seems to be painted with some flaking off and silver underneath. Does any one know if this is aluminium. Might be worth polishing if it is. All in all though I am quite pleased with this little gun and thanks to Canada Ammo for bringing them in at such a reasonable price. Now if they would ship my Type 97 it would be memorable Febuary.

How do you remove the external safety? Has anyone done it? What did you use to fill the holes in? I find its location uncomfortable and want to get rid of it.
