PX4 vs. Glock??

If you like external safeties the PX4 is the winner. If you don't like them the Glock is the answer.

The Glock is less expensive but the PX4 in 9mm needed to be made with a longer barrel to be non-prohib in Canada. That makes it cost more. In the U.S. the PX4 9mm has a barrel shorter than 4 inches.

I'd shoot one of each and buy the one you like more. I've tried both and I liked the PX4 more. It's all personal preference.

Have you ever considered the smith & wesson m&p 40 cal. ? Ive shot one and it's very accurate and reliable. The company I work for will be upgrading to them soon.

No really? I had no idea that .25 and .32 were both ACP cartridges, this is only my first day as a gun owner.

Their is nothing wrong with .25 and .32 for plinking, self defence is something different. Sorry, I don't buy every gun I own to be a self defence gun like you. If that were the case I would make my own little 12 gauge.

You are not the only one in Canada whom has taken "training"

Regardless if we are talking about self defence shooting, or hunting of course shot placement is key.

As has been mentioned, the decision for 40 is a direct result of the purpose of the pistol; IPSC. Both 25 and 32 being prohib(don't get me started) and neither being permitted in IPSC, why would you support them? Even for those who are grandfathered the cost of either calibre is as much or more than the current major offerings.

Anyone wanna tell me how/why 40 is harder on the barrel?

I would assume just because it's faster. More friction, faster wear. High pressures might fatigue the gun a bit faster as well, though I don't know that it would present a problem on that end.

Glock is a better made gun, but I shoot my PX4 better. PX4 is a really cool gun that Beretta gheyed up by cheaping out in a few places and putting friggin logos and warnings on every flat spot the gun has.

IIRC the Glock .40 was made as an afterthought or a modification so to speak to the "perfect" design of the G17.

The 17 was simply bored for the larger and higher pressure .40 round, resulting in less barrel wall, as well as using parts designed for the forces of the 9mm round.

Simple.

Note, the Glock #'s are the order in which the patents we received IIRC. For anyone that wants to argue the .40 was first. ;)

The Glock model 22 was introduced before the 20 and 21 as an attempt to capitalize on the then new 40 S&W round. 1994 I believe? Glock beat all makers to the production of a 40 S&W chambered pistol. Even S&W who helped pioneer the round.

Could be. Also could be the even though the heat hit the street first, as I stated it was the order in which the firearms were designed and the patents were achieved that resulted in the name of the guns. Not the street date.

I shoot a Px4 9mm and it has the worst trigger I have ever seen...EVER! other then that I dont have much to complain about.

Lots of people own Glocks and swear by them so if possible shoot both and decide.
In my humble opinion the Px4 is over priced for what you get compared to Glocks.

As for ammunition - regardless of the caliber you choose it does come down to two things...how much do you want to spend per box (unless you reload) and how often are you shooting (damage to barrels) but if you shoot for fun and not competition I wouldnt be too worried about barrel damage.

I am a HUGE Beretta fan (I own nothing but Beretta made handguns) and I still prefer the Glock 17 (or even better the 19) over the PX4. IMHO, Beretta has repeatedly dropped the ball big time with their recent pistol designs.

In the polymer gun arena, Glock owns all others.

Glock wins in all categories: price, accessories, track record, reliability, durability, simplicity, probably weight (not sure), reputation, etc.

The only thing I like about the PX4 is that it's a very aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

I'm biased, I own a G17 and I'd trust it with my life...

I got plastic fever. So I'm looking to get a gun in 40S&W.

Are PX4s even available in 40 yet? Every place I've been to only has it in 9mm.

I've looked at both closely, but just can't decide.

Anyone with experience with both please comment, thanks.

So what did you end up buying?
