Ontario Fall Black Bear Hunting

Sometimes you can get expired dog food for cheap/free, awesome when covered in cheap syrup. Beaver is also awesome if you can get it. Somebody here suggested keeping some deer scraps from the previous fall which I think is an awesome idea. I like chicken in a 5g container filled 3/4 full of water that's been sitting over a month on the roof for stink bait, not suggested if you have a weak stomache. Honey burns work awesome for me in the past. Once you do shoot a bear open it up and see they eat in your area. Every bear i've shot was full of wasps/bees and berries. Sweets seems to be key for bringing them back, major stink is key for bringing them in.

You can't just set out a major stink and expect to get trophy bears. Your baits still need to be set up in proper bear habitat...

True. Otherwise Toronto would be swarmed with bears right now during the garbage strike...:D
 
I want to bait on the private land we hunt, but the farmer is worried that by baiting 500 - 800 yards away from his corn fields that the bears will damage his crops because we are going to draw them in.

He occasionally gets some crop damage due to bears, but I would have thought that me putting corn and other grains, plus molasses and sardine cans or whatever would not attract much more than say the 1000 acres of corn with a couple of miles.

He says I can bait AFTER the corn comes off in mid October, but by then I'm focused on moose/deer hunts.

Opinions? Experiences?

Check early in the season for sighn of them feeding in the corn. If they are, set up stand and take one there.
 
I can sit on my deck with a coffee in the morning and get one if I wanted. At night I use a bottle of Canadian or red wine. It depends on how high my colestral is at the time.

Results at the stand this week.....these were the two only interest pictures, I figure he's hunting a Hare as there was one there at the exact same time the night before and he doesnt' seem to care for the bait.

Too bad the pictures are of poor quality.

Guess you've never been to sudbury:rolleyes: we get trophy bears in front yards here. Plus trophy bears aren't the best eaters. You want a rug and thats cool, i'd rather have some of the best meat there is.
 
Just find an oat field, get out, load your rifle and shoot one of the 6 bears that are in the field. Unfortunately, this his how easy black bear hunting has become in Northern Ontario. Either that or sit out on your porch and leave the lid off your garbage can. LOL.
 
Oat fields are nice but I like to spend weekends at the lake so that's where my stand is. If I cant them coming, Ill sell all my guns and gear for 10 cents on the dollar.


ok, figured out the picture hosting issues.

There a few things missing from the setup so I have no idea who is taking it, camera doesnt' seem to snap pictures 100% of the time. I do have a lot of good crow pics !!!

How abou the size of that Lynx !!
 
good call on jello, nothing like cheap sweet toppings.

I actually dropped off some cheap dogfood with cheap pancake syrup over it today. I had left a small sd card (16mb) in the camera so it was filled up by the crows and me working on the first day. Picked up a 2 GB card for 12$ today and swapped the old one out.

Hopefully will have some decent pics for me on the weekend since I now have two proper sd cards on the go. I did have over 3 pounds of freezer burned hamburger dissapear over the 4 days too bad I had no memory left on that bloody card.
