I'd like to hear from the guys who have taken Elk, Moose, Bears etc with their 30/30
I stood beside my brother while he made a bang-flop, one shot kill on a bull moose, with the long barreled Model 94, in 30-30.
However, I like to tell this story. I must like it, because I have told it on here at least twice, already.
During the depression years of the 1930s every family living in the boondocks of northern Canada, lived on wild meat. Most shot it themselves, but others were given meat by friendly neighbors, who happened to be better hunters.
I grew up in this environment, thus know it first hand. However, for this story I go to a man who was a depression era moose huter, but from a different province.
After the war I became close friends with this former meat hunter from the 1930s. I knew he wouldn't BS to me.
He always used a 30-30, a model 94. He told me that during those years he had shot 30 moose. I asked him how many he had wounmded that had gotten away. He thought for some time before answering. Then he said, "I can't think of any moose that I hit that got away from me!"
