Ontario Fall Black Bear Hunting

No problems at all with the MNR (I checked) There was a regulation during the spring bear hunt.

It is an ethical issue....2nd year cubs are on their own this fall. Im not worried about them at all.

As far as I'm concearned, a sow with cubs is a sow with cubs, and will be untill she boots them out herself. There is a very good chance that she would den up this winter with them untill the spring.
I just can't imagine how anybody could be so horny to shoot a bear that they would shoot a sow with cubs

Almost like shooting a Cow with a calf eh....

Well if your hunting as a group as you do with moose most of the time.... if you have a cow tag someone with you will have a calf tag so I would take them both end of story....If you got 3 guys party hunting bear shoot the Sow and both cubs problem solved no need to worry about the cubs staying warm this winter.

Touche.....More double standards.

TJ,

Maybe the the cubs will live in the sows basement until they are forty....I bow to your moral superiority and obvious knowledge in wildlife biology.

Two months of Black Bear hunting left, as for me im out of the bush for a week and half and no one to bait for me so who knows I may have some new bears show once i get back into it.

Interesting discussion. I personally would never shoot a sow with cubs, & don't believe other hunters would either. If I saw a single bear & knew it was a sow I would pass on shooting it, however it is very difficult to tell the ### of a black bear, especially younger bears. Female bears are the guarantee of more bears to hunt. I prefer NOT to harvest females of any game species I hunt. I stress that this is my preference, & I don't look down of hunters that decide to harvest females where it is legal to do so. We are all hunters & should stand together in the joys of hunting. I always remember the old adage; "Together we stand, divided we fall."
