Waterloo IPSC Match

I think lot of frustration would go away if you had kept the competitors informed about the progress. It is hard to wait patiently while staying in the dark room.

Frankly as the person responsible for scoring the match I'm a little disappointed in some of the rhetoric in this thread. Anyone that expects results within 48 hours over a holiday weekend is being both unreasonable and unrealistic. In this case I was out of town for the weekend, but immediately started scoring the match on my return. After running a first draft from the data I decided to run the upgrade the program requested everytime it opened (dumb move on my part I admit). Once you run the upgrade a registration key is required to access the program ( a fact not mentioned before the upgrade). The folks at Win MSS tech support were great getting a key to me by noon on Friday. I circulated the draft to screen for errors and the final copy was submitted last night.

For every match we've scored we have either scored the match concurrently while it was taking place, screened the results and sent them off the next day: or we have scored the day after and submitted the results the following day. Sometimes unforseen things happen, in which case a little patience goes a long way.

Don't fool yourself into thinking that answering another GunNutz ##### session about results is "keeping the competitors informed"

In most cases...these threads start before anyone actually takes the time to contact the club for a status update.

The results can never come fast enough...but I can't noticing that the people griping the loudest...don't do much volunteering.

That is kinda my point. The match team don't notify the other people.
I somehow having a hard time to believe that my offer to help would do any good in this case. It seem like the person doing the scores was in control of the situation and admit his mistakes, so the whole issue is just a bad communication for the most part.

Though I wonder why the scoring program have to be such a big issue?

Say What!

Maybe it wasn't noticed.......but I was the one that started this thread.

As far as volunteering goes......well, I don't know what to say about that.....I do know that I have done my fair share, and am trying to do more....once an RO course becomes available, I would like to do that, and I always help out with patching, I always ask to help out at a match if it is needed......

I didn't remember who started the thread (not that's it's relevant at this point)...and obvioulsy I am well aware of your contributions...I was aiming squarely at Peter and Mike...with just a sprinkling of Steve and Euxx for good measure (I guess I don't always hit my target) ;)

Hey, I haven't even asked about the scores! Perhaps because I wasn't shooting at that match, but once in a while each of us had waited for scores longer then we can stay patient. So, I am totally interested to find a solution for this issue.

Yup I'm a shoot and scooter, get you facts straight. Just becuase I don't work GTA matches doesn't mean I don't volunteer.
I siad it before and I'll say it again.
When you pay for a match you are paying for a service, part of which is the final results. The who/how/when aspects of getting results out should be part of match planning and not an after thought.
If you want to put on a match then plan it correctly, stages & staff have IPSC-ONT standards that need to be reached to keep it a Level 2. Why not scoring?? The last 2 Sincities were scored before the last shooters had left & we have a very small group of voluteers to work with down here. The reason we can do it because we planned to have them done quickly.
Running the match on a Holiday weekend is no excuse to skirt details. Its the same as trying to say its ok to not have any certified offcials at the match because it was a Holiday weekend.

I'm willing to bet that in most cases...the person responsible for entering the scores also helped out in other areas (set up, tear down, RO'ing etc)

Helping out in those areas frees up people to do other things (like entering the score sheets)

...bottom line. This is a volunteer organization...and we are all expected to help from time to time. Far too many leave the work to everyone else...and as you can tell that iritates me to no end.

...wow...so freeing to not have to worry about votes this time of year :D

 1 comment...that's funny Mike.

Okay.....yes I went a little bit off there, sorry, thought some of that was targeted :D at myself.

I too would like to see a viable solution talked about/found for this problem. Surely we can agree that over a week for match results, is a tad "tardy", notwithstanding the problems with the program WinMss. I have been in this sport for but a short while, but I have witnessed match results take this long on a fairly regular basis, some up to 2 weeks.

I think that 2 weeks is the exception...not the norm. For the most part...a few days is standard. I don't like waiting anymore than the rest of you...but I accept it will happen from time to time.

There is a small handfull of people that do stats for several of their local clubs...it appears that that slot has not been filled in some parts of the GTA. I'll trade tear down for doing stats on the spot any day of the week ...I'm sure there are other people that feel the same way...

Yes I can read...but you're like a broken record (not the first time you've made that particular post...just the first time in this particular thread)

Too bad...there's was a bit of wisdom in your second last post...but it's gets lost in your standard "must attack Bud" messages...

Boooooring.....try something new for a change.

read the thread, I posted 1 comment in it before you s**t out your mouth.

I hear there is a solution that lets upload match results to the province site in a push of a button, so anything there prevents the match directors use it? It seem like the USPSA match results are completely automated, perhaps it is something to look at for the future.

Quigley,
I didn't like how long it was taking for some of the local matches...so 9 or 10 years ago...I stepped up and volunteered to do them...problem solved.
no matter how much someone will volunteer, it never will be enough.
This is not a point.
A match has a start end end. End is a posting the results, what is so hard not to understand.
I am blessed to attend matches in US and can tell you this, never I wait for scores longer then 48 hours. When I went last year to shoot few matches in Poland, scores in Level II match were posted right after the match (450 shooters region). Every one have waited extra hour drinking pop or beer. I don't even want to get into match ceremony at level II, but yes there was such a thing where shooters were awarded medals or recognized otherwise.
So, now in your world, at least that how I can understand; is this, be happy that you can shoot at the match and don't make any comments, just shut up?
Is that where we going, no comments, no dialogue?
If we want to have a healthy grow we need to discuss those issues if necessary.

Thanks for listening

Congratulations on missing the entire point...
