What trail Camera to buy?

This one take AA's and can be attached to an external battery source or a solar panel. I thought about buying the solar panel but will wait and see if it interests me enough to keep spending on it.

Never really had any interest in these before but I am starting to see that they can be kinda fun. Just another hobby I will have no time for :(

You can pick up a solar panel at CT for $10-$15 on sale once in a while...Not super powerful, but the trickle charge should help out...

Well, the guy at the local archery shop sold me on the Bushnell Trophy cam . I never actually thought that I would buy another Bushnell product but he assured me for what I was looking for I would be happy.

I have played with it a bit so far and everything works good. Very easy to set up and use. If it works good(over a period of time) and I decide to buy another I will go with the same one but with the built in view screen.

I will let you know how it goes. Thanks again guys!

I don't know if this is true as I have no experience with one...

But, friends with cams that have built in LCD displays, say that once the temperature go down to -10C...the screens get damaged, when powered on.

I don't think they are worth the extra $$$$ either....just swap the SD cards and look at them when you get home. ;)

Huh, never read or heard anything about that but you could be right on that one. Thanks for bringing that up! I was going to get one last night but figured I would try the lesser one out first before I went any further.

I have used the Moultrie solar panel on my corn feeder, and even though it was not in direct sunlight, it kept my 6volt battery charged at a minimum of 95% for months.

As for having a built in screen, I would save your money and buy two memory cards, they are so inexpensive now. If you are the kind of guy who is just to curious, and need to view the pic's right away, do what I do, and use your GPS to view the pic's. My GPS I use for the car accepts a SD card. I believe most GPS's do. I just put the card in the GPS and view my pic's.

I have realized exactly what you say, no need for the screen. I can also haul out my laptop with me to check the pics and get a nice view of what I am looking at.

I have been using this at work the past few days and it works quite well. I am pretty happy with the quality of the pics indoors and out. I will be setting it up this weekend along one of our fence lines that I know animals move through all night long but only ever see the tracks.

I will post the results if and when I get a few decent pics.

yup, I never buy ones with the built in viewer. I just take my digital cam with me and swap memory cards. Way better plus I can take the memory card home with my everytime to get a better look on the computer, or leave it if no good pictures.

Alright Davey where's the pics already!?

Looks like I am going to be in the market for two of these things too.

Priority one to find out who the waste of skin is who is trespassing on our place to chase game without permission on thier Rino/Ranger ATV and also to see what they are chasing. I haven't seen my Dad this angry in a looong time. If they get caught it won't be pretty.

Mo pics yet. got it set up a little too late. Too busy chasing mulies with my digital camera for fun.

I will get some up hopefully by next weekend.

I have a Moultrie and it works well however I am wondering why all these cameras are so huge...

So far I have about 100 pics, mostly mulie does and small bucks. This thing is kinda fun and can see how it would get a bit addicting :). I am pretty happy with how this camera works and will most likely be buying another.

Here are a few for ya Noel:

That must be one of the newest Bushnell cams...the little ones that look like the HCO Scoutguards.

Glad you are enjoying it. :)

cool pics Davey....have you thought instead of lugging a lap top to view them stick the SD card in a small digital cam and view them on the spot? I dont own a trail cam...just a thought

I tried that with my camera but they wont show up for some reason. I have just been taking a SD card with me and swapping it with the one with the pics on it. It is only about a 10 minute walk back to our place from where the cam is set up, then I can have a good look at them.

I thought I would give an update on this thread. Since I put this camera up it has taken about 250 pics of deer and the majority of them were good. I could tell when it was really cold it was obviously not working very well if it all (-15 and lower). That was to be expected though. I put in lithium batteries in it on New years eve and it seemed to help a bit with the colder weather.

For the price I have been very happy with this camera. It has done exactly what I wanted it to do and then some. I will buy another before next hunting season. Please remember that this is the new version of the Bushnell trophy cam so don't listen about the reviews of the old version of this camera.

Damn, I never thought I would be saying good things about a Bushnell product ever again. I guess I was wrong :)
