I'll change my answer to a G17 loaded with 124g Hollow Points or a Sig 220 with 230g Hollow Points in the nightstand and a 870 with birdshot as the first round and the remainder with buckshot beside or under the bed.....

But, then again, (click on image) this might be the right idea....;)

Basil Parasiriss killed a cop in Montreal 2 years ago. If you remember Basil was asleep during the night when the cops busted is house and went up the stairs where Basil and is childrends were sleeping. Basil took a Ruger GP100 357 Mag in is closet and killed the cop. He never went to jail for that.
 
You are not even close to understanding what I am saying. I am not disagreeing with you at all. Bucksot will put someone down alot quicker no doubt. I am simply saying that at close ranges like in a house birdshot will be effective enough to keep your family safe without having to worry about killing a family member. If the person with the gun is hesitant to take the shot because of fear of overpenetration then what good does all that bucksot do. He hesitates and he is dead. If he is comfortable blasting away with birdshot then you are alot better off. Like I said in my first post I have a Glock with hollowpoints in my safe so I don't care either way. I just think that you jumping all over someone for suggesting birdshot is ridiculous, and as others have said they would use birdshot as well is it possible you are being a bit close minded.
And birdshot will kill within 20 feet, not instantly but if you make someones chest hamburger they are not going to be attacking you any longer.

I specifically remember watching a crime TV show where a pizza dude was robbed at a false delivery. Pizza dude ran and was shot in the back. Luckily he was smart enough to cover hiz back with a pizza box. The birdshot did nothing to him and he got away safely. How effective do you think your birdshot will be assuming the guy is wearing a heavy shirt or two and a jacket? Is your home so hot that all burglars will strip down or go in bare chested? Are you confident that all shots will be 100% centred chest hits? Your intruder won't turn and take it in the arm? Are you sure the intruder won't find cover behind walls and furniture. Are you sure the intruder won't be armed himself with something that will penetrate walls? To paraphrase the Instructor from Tactical Response "People, in the scenarios they run in their minds, always think their planned actions will go perfectly". If you are indeed more knowledgable and experienced than all the police, firearms training academy instructors and history well then far be it for me to criticize your mastery.

Lastly, why are you defending an action that you admitted yourself you won't do? Why go for your glock when your birdshot is (in your mind) so clearly effective? Your statements are incompatible with your own statements.

i think you should look at the 16 months he got for unsafe storage .

he's been relaxed from the pursuit because proof has been maid thessier and his ''' clowns''' had overpassed ALL the parameters of the warrant on hand.(laval police is well known for their great lack of proffessionalism all over the country, and thessier himself like SERGE MORIN, was himself not clean at all).

parasiris did it all GOOD to me. the police were totally in infracts, didn't took their work seriously, leaving the drug dealer thinking about a home invasion and defending his family.

he has been charged with unsafe storage, and convicted wich is better than NOT defend yourself over burglars who might kill you easy in this kind of break-in.
 
When we tell someone to go to the gun store and handle guns to see what is comfortable it is because not everyone is comfortable with the same gun. The best tool is the one you feel comfortable with. I would rather the man blast off as many rounds of birdshot as he needed to end the situation then have him hesitate and lose his life and possibly his families. You fail to mention how far away the pizza guy was when he was shot at. I never contradicted myself once. Just because I think someone is reasonable in choosing birdshot doesn't mean i think all others are unreasonable. This is your close minded approach to the topic not mine.

I'd like to know how you'd feel if you lost your entire family because that burglar shook off your underpowered ammunition? Only people without any understanding of ballistics would use anything that small. If you shoot someone you want to STOP them fighting, not hope you've scraped off enough of his flesh to leave you alone.

Back on topic, I have a Glock 20 nearby loaded with my choice of JHP bullets. Should do quite well if I am ever forced to defend myself. My first choice is one of my 870s with 12 pellet 0 buck though...
