the thing is that, either using a shotgun or a pistol or whatever in a situation of armed home invasion will get you booked for an investigation for sure....at the end the result will be the same as far as the pistol has been stored legaly and proofs are made your life was at threat .....no law ever said you shouldn't be able to reach your firearm in a true case of self-defence involving an armed criminal.
Your ignorance is stunning. Police are always worried about overpenetration and backstop. Police do not just use their shotguns for busting in drug dealers homes, and drug dealers have children too. You don't win arguments by being more ignorant.
Birdshot is indeed vicious. Do you hunt deer with it? Nooooooo. Because it doesn't kill fast enough or at distances beyond three inches from the barrel. There is excellent documentation on this. Use of buckshot is consistent with the principles of self defense. You disagree not only with me but with every firearms training instructor I've ever heard from including Massad Ayoub, the boys at gunsite, tactical response and pretty much everywhere else. But you think I'm the one who is closed minded. Methinks thou dost need to look in the mirror.
Again thowing the word "Liberal politician" tells me you aren't very clever. Liberals won't tell you to use buckshot to defend yourself from a predator. Use birdshot in a SxS all you want, its your life. You may get lucky. But you sound to me like the one who is closed minded.
You are not even close to understanding what I am saying. I am not disagreeing with you at all. Bucksot will put someone down alot quicker no doubt. I am simply saying that at close ranges like in a house birdshot will be effective enough to keep your family safe without having to worry about killing a family member. If the person with the gun is hesitant to take the shot because of fear of overpenetration then what good does all that bucksot do. He hesitates and he is dead. If he is comfortable blasting away with birdshot then you are alot better off. Like I said in my first post I have a Glock with hollowpoints in my safe so I don't care either way. I just think that you jumping all over someone for suggesting birdshot is ridiculous, and as others have said they would use birdshot as well is it possible you are being a bit close minded.
And birdshot will kill within 20 feet, not instantly but if you make someones chest hamburger they are not going to be attacking you any longer.
Basil Parasiriss killed a cop in Montreal 2 years ago. If you remember Basil was asleep during the night when the cops busted is house and went up the stairs where Basil and is childrends were sleeping. Basil took a Ruger GP100 357 Mag in is closet and killed the cop. He never went to jail for that.

I'm going to stop after this because its your life and you do as you please. But one last crack onhelping you see the light.
I specifically remember watching a crime TV show where a pizza dude was robbed at a false delivery. Pizza dude ran and was shot in the back. Luckily he was smart enough to cover hiz back with a pizza box. The birdshot did nothing to him and he got away safely. How effective do you think your birdshot will be assuming the guy is wearing a heavy shirt or two and a jacket? Is your home so hot that all burglars will strip down or go in bare chested? Are you confident that all shots will be 100% centred chest hits? Your intruder won't turn and take it in the arm? Are you sure the intruder won't find cover behind walls and furniture. Are you sure the intruder won't be armed himself with something that will penetrate walls? To paraphrase the Instructor from Tactical Response "People, in the scenarios they run in their minds, always think their planned actions will go perfectly". If you are indeed more knowledgable and experienced than all the police, firearms training academy instructors and history well then far be it for me to criticize your mastery.
Lastly, why are you defending an action that you admitted yourself you won't do? Why go for your glock when your birdshot is (in your mind) so clearly effective? Your statements are incompatible with your own statements.
Either way, I wish you a safe and happy home. Let's hope neither of us ever has to say I told you so.
The way my floor plan is and layout, it is most probable that you will have put a .45 hydro-shock through one or both of your sons bodies (children). Well done. I personally have chosen to try and mitigate that risk. Shotgun with #5 it is.
I would be interested in seeing how well you would sleep after shooting one of your own family in an attempt to protect them. I am sure however you will be so very confident that that would never happen TO YOU and you will spout off something equally as impressive as your last post as "one shot, one kill" or something similar.
I can assure you that your allegation of me being a "P*SSY" is fallacious . I'm just practical and prudent, rather than reckless and hot-headed.
When things go bump in the night I call 1911 and then 8 friends are at my fingertips to rescue me.![]()
but i dont call 911 either 1911 but G21 with 10 friendsThe way that I view the argument vis-a-vis buckshot versus birdshot is thusly - if I wouldn't feel confident shooting a 200# black bear or whitetail with it, I'm sure not going to use it on a home invader...
