Let's make a concerted effort to get pics, shall we?

Had the same problem. Well, actually it was the wind blowing on the spotting scope.

I would have taken that buck in your pic on my last day down south. The big one I was after died mysteriously and was found last winter.

I saw a bigger one this morning, but again no pic. Hopefully he will show his face on my trail cam.

Speaking of Moose, I almost became the "Late Noel...." yesterday at noon.
Hunting in one of my favorite spots I had just broke the edge of the brush where some logging had been done three or four years before. The black poplar is coming up thick.

Anyway I'm standing there minding my own when I hear a deep drumming coming from my left. What the heck...... and then I saw a cow and calf making for the grainfields of Saskatchewan. I set the Husky down and pulled the camera out thinking this will be great.

First shot is about 40yds, she seems to be going right by. I figured she was making to
cross the creek beyond her, fine by me.

And then just as I'm taking this second pic she wheels hard onto the trail I'm standing on with my camera to defend myself with!:runaway:
The time it takes the camera to take a pic (digital poc) she is inside 25 feet, a miracle the pic turned out this well. The ground is shaking hard with her fast pace and I am thinking I'm gonna die and my Husky is going to get scratched bad with this meeting!:( You know when you see moose ears over the camera your hiding behind she is dang close.

At 20 feet she saw me and came to a halt right quick. I couldn't even speak.
She wheeled on her back left leg and went right around me, her calf doing mach chicken by this time and passing real close not knowing I am there at all.

Strangest part of all was this pair scared a cow/calf elk pair out of the same brush but they ran a different direction. I never saw them but a friend who was hunting across the creek has the exact same thing happen to him. It was nest to see the wildlife so close. I hope next time it doesn't get quite so wild.

Thanks Richard.

More from this weekend:

.......so if an owl and a squirrel were to play rock paper scissors who do you think would win?:D At first I thought is was a grouse that bought it but then I saw the tip of a tree rat's tail. This is all that was left. Eaten right on the spot. Can you imagine picking the hide of in little bits like that. talk about Lock-beak.

I want to see the buck that made this rub. the grooves are 1/4" deep and he didn't do all that many passes like most other rubs in the area. He has a mean streak.

Had an owl fly up in the afternoon about 40yds off. In trying to get closer without spooking him off he helped me out by flying over and landing right above my head. Made my day. Almost last light so the pics suck. Argh!

These two are from just before Sheep opened, out scouting with the fam.

South Sask Mule Deer.

Had to pass on a couple of Monsters that were out of range....shot this guy on last afternoon of our Mon-Fri. hunt.

Not the biggest but he has poor genetics so I did the herd a favor and got him out of the gene pool.

Awesome thread guys. Lots of great pics and stories.

I'll add some pics from our latest trip. The plan was to fill a couple of Mule Deer draws quick and then chase elk for the remainder of the week. It all started well.....

No photos with elk, unfortunately...:(:)

There are some VERY NICE pictures on here. Hunters with guns, game and dogs. Nice scenic shots of hunting areas.

And there are some odd pics as well. Who wants to see a pic of a gun leaning up against a truck? Or a truck and camper? Or a close up of a bunch of gear on a quad?

Here are a couple of pics from mu hunting this season.

That is a super nice "speed goat", man! I have always wanted to try hunting those. I'm jealouse.

I like this photo. Not sure why, but I really like it. Nicely done.
Thanks, Pudelpointer. She was a big, beautiful doe.
How did you pack those deer out?
Funny thing. They both fell within dragging distance of 'two track' trails. So... truck. I had set out solo for a backpack hunt on the day I got the buck. Didn't get far, he was spotted, stalked and down by 930... there went the days plans.:) We put on lots of miles hiking after we got those two deer. We only saw one nice bull with three cows and a calf from up on that hill, but, they had been spooked and were MOVING. Don't think they stopped in our WMU...

Here was yesterday, the deer at home haven't come out in the open all fall, no idea why. Thanks to the howling chinook I was able to get into the thick timber and have the wind cover my very slow footsteps on the blanket of crisp dry leaves. By slow I mean it takes over an hour to go 30 yds in this brush. It paid off though, saw the most deer all season and not one detected me first, all nine of them within 40yds, half within 20!
