Speaking of Moose, I almost became the "Late Noel...." yesterday at noon.
Hunting in one of my favorite spots I had just broke the edge of the brush where some logging had been done three or four years before. The black poplar is coming up thick.
Anyway I'm standing there minding my own when I hear a deep drumming coming from my left. What the heck...... and then I saw a cow and calf making for the grainfields of Saskatchewan. I set the Husky down and pulled the camera out thinking this will be great.
First shot is about 40yds, she seems to be going right by. I figured she was making to
cross the creek beyond her, fine by me.
And then just as I'm taking this second pic she wheels hard onto the trail I'm standing on with my camera to defend myself with!

The time it takes the camera to take a pic (digital poc) she is inside 25 feet, a miracle the pic turned out this well. The ground is shaking hard with her fast pace and I am thinking I'm gonna die and my Husky is going to get scratched bad with this meeting!

You know when you see moose ears over the camera your hiding behind she is dang close.
At 20 feet she saw me and came to a halt right quick. I couldn't even speak.
She wheeled on her back left leg and went right around me, her calf doing mach chicken by this time and passing real close not knowing I am there at all.
Strangest part of all was this pair scared a cow/calf elk pair out of the same brush but they ran a different direction. I never saw them but a friend who was hunting across the creek has the exact same thing happen to him. It was nest to see the wildlife so close. I hope next time it doesn't get quite so wild.
