well looks like there will be no need for a final poll to get it down to the best two as the votes are the same, they just get bigger, but no firearm is changing its position.
I know I'm opening a can of worms but why does everyone here on a Canadian gun forum so M1 Garand happy ? I thought the Enfield would win hands down.
I've handled an M1 Garand, never fired one, but I did not like the weight of it unloaded. Some may call it an uber semi-automatic rifle but you wouldn't catch me carrying it around if I had a choice.

It's a "best weapon" poll, not a "your favourite" poll (although many seem to be voting that way). In all honesty the LE, although dear to our hearts, has no business being even in the top 5 WW2 weapons. The M1 does (although I would put it at 2 or 3).
If this was a WW1 poll LE would get top marks.
No one has explained to me why they think the M1 is so "uber". That is what I would like to know as I can't figure it out.
I does surprise me that the K98 Mauser would not have been as popular.
To reply to your question..this is not a poll of what a 1940's design morphed into years after the war ended. We are comparing and choosing the best military firearms of WW2 based on available technology of that time.
Several factors come into consideration in making a choice amongst the choices provided...Durability, accuracy, ease of use by soldiers, power, availability, ordnance support, rate of fire both by the individual rifleman and on a squad, platoon or company level.
Using these parameters, it appears the M-1 Garand stands out above all others, though there are limiting factors in the design of the rifle, it is still the best of the firearms listed. The popularity of the M-1 because they are as readily identifiable, here in Canada, as a Lee Enfield. I does surprise me that the K98 Mauser would not have been as popular.
I hope this answers your question.
Cheers
I'm not bashing the poll, just asking why everyone likes the M1. Thanks for the explanation though.
