I'm slightly confused. My instructor said he'd mail in forms for me (3 weeks ago) and that the CFC would mail me back and then I'd mail them back, but now I found a form on the RCMP website. How do I apply for the PAL, do I wait until I get something from the CFC and then apply or do I send this in now and they will know I did the course because of what my instructor sent in.

Forms? Are you talking about the test scores? If so, you'll get it back in the mail from them in about 3 weeks time with a stamp on it.

Go here: http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/form-formulaire/num-nom/921-eng.htm

and fill out your PAL/RPAL application and mail it to Miramichi, NB along with the paper with the stamp on it. Some people photocopied it and mailed that but I mailed my original and kept photocopy for my own records instead. Yes, if you read the whole application, you need to include those papers. IF you mail without, you'll just be delaying yourself even longer due to incomplete form. They want everything in one envelope or you'll be asking for long delay.

That might be diffrent way from diffrent instructors. My wife and I got course report, today, right after we passed pratical test. Our instructor just wrote down our scores and give us report with his signature. He told me I'd better post the first copy to PAL office.
I asked him if we need wait for any further docu from him. He said that's all and goos luck.

Ok, well I didn't get anything from the instructor, just a handshake and a well done you'll hear from the CFC in 3 weeks time. So I just fill out the forms on the RCMP website and the day I get that certificate or test scores sheet I mail it off to the address?

YOu should be getting your test score papers back any time now (with stamp of course).

Once you got it, mail it out ASAP b/c it's going to be a long wait anyway. Are you apply for RPAL too? Fill out whatever you can in the mean time.

At any rate, start looking for a club if you want to shoot your goodies soon too. I started my course in first week of April and didn't get to fire my first shot until 1.5 weeks ago. LOL!

I never got anything back.

Just fill out the form for the PAL and attach copies, they will do the rest.

I dunno what was done in your situation but new2shoot experiencing same situation as me. Test scores were sent to Orillia by my instructor. Took about 3 weeks to get mine back. I sent those out along with my application the next day.

As for others just starting, kiss you hard earn $$$ good bye. However, forget buying factory ammo and reload right away. :D When I bought my reloading press, I was under the impression that I won't save any $$$, just shoot more. But when I discovered that I can cast bullets effectively with wheel weights (free or pay a small fee for a 5G bucket), I'll actually save $$$. Imagine, shooting 9mm for $2.50/box. That is as cheap as 22lr. Impossible to go broke. I shoot 300rds of 9mm and call it a day.

I was looking around, can you reccomend a good thread/website/book explaining reloading

EDIT- Ok so I found some resources but now that I'm reading up on it, it seems like it would take quite a bit of time to make a bullet, how fast can an experienced reloader reload? a round maaaaybe 2 a minute?

I'm trying to stay on budget for everything else lol already put some hard cold cash away to purchase sig 226 9mm for range and benelli supernova shotty for hunting:evil:

New2shoot, it took me 6 weeks to receive my test results back from CFC in Orillia. Hope it comes much faster for you. I called them few times after 4 weeks after I mailed it and they told me they were extremely busy and it takes 5 weeks to get it back.
Good luck.

Sure, check gunnutz very own reloading forum. Good info there.

Ultimate casting boolits forum is: http://castboolits.gunloads.com

Watch plenty of youtube videos on reloading presses (aka Dillion 650, Lee, RCBS.)

Read, re-read and do more reading and watch a bunch of videos before starting. Then you'll get an idea what's going on. You can buy a cheap press or $$$ press. I think they're all pretty good and will all do the same job (make reliable ammo). Only difference I see is if you want to save time, progressive press is only way to go, especially for semi-auto pistols. I was completely clueless when I started a few months ago. But I'm casting my own bullets and loaded a whole bunch already (over ~1500rds) and fired more today with zero problems. :) I just don't like firing cast bullets indoors, unless the ventilation is top notch. I'm looking for outdoor range now.

Buy a few reloading manuals such as Lyman but I didn't find it too useful b/c I only used a few pages of it for reloading 9mm and their data don't have my bullets, so I just used the manual as rough estimate and what recipes I found on the net with a grain of salt. Lyman does have a section on reloading, but I read so much from the internet, I found their guide useless to me.

Only word of advice is work your loads up (3-10 test rounds per load - or you'll end up just pulling hundreds of bullets like I did). Start off small and go 0.1 grain at a time until your gun cycles 100%. Once you hit that sweet spot, you may like it or may want to go higher. Entirely up to you if it's safe to do so. Overall Length (OAL) is very important too. Seat bullet too deep, huge risk of high pressures, poor feeding and poor accuracy. Seat bullet too shallow, poor feeding and poor accuracy. Well, there's crimping to worry about too, not to mention primers. LOL... But I'll stop now.

I just checked on line and my licence has been issued!! :)

For me it took exactly 28 days to get the papers back from the CFO(I'm in Southern Ontario btw). Once the CFC got the applications, me, as well has my references were interviewed on day 11( I called them right after I had mine to make sure they pick up the phone because it comes up as an unknown number). Today is day 28 and my licence has been issued.

My wife had her interview on day 10. She mentioned that she was surprised to hear from them so quickly. She was told at this time there is no backlog slowing them down.

Now I just have to wait to get it in the mail.

My test results haven't been mailed back to me yet by the CFO in southern Ontario.
I (of course) have to wait for them to send in my PAL application.
Test results were mailed on October 28th, should I be worried?

You should get it very soon if your instructor mailed them out right away.

But if you want to call here's the number that has been given to me by my instructor.

1-800-731-4000 (then press 1, 1 again, then extension 7514)

They received my application on Nov 2. And it went through today so 28 days exactly. Now I got to wait for the mail with my license in it.

Then it is shopping time. Merry Christmas to myself.
