Got myself Remington 700 SPS Varmint.......And have problems ( Pics added)

The good news is for $100 and a trip to the smith you'll have a heck of a rifle. With a Savage a $1000 won't give you anything more than a Savage.

Hind site is always 20/20.

Don't forget about the thread about a month ago where the guy had a savage that was having serious problems too.

Mind you in the end Savage bought him a new and better rifle. Lets see what Remmy does for this fellow.

Was that me?...... the rep was a POS so I went right to head office and they got me a gun that was worth $400 more then my origional purchase and it didn't cost me a dime....

To the OP:
If LeBarons wont replace the rifle and the Remington rep wants to send it to a gun smith while you wait a month with out a rifle like the Savage rep wanted to do to me. Make sure you escalate the issue to Remingtons head office complaints department tell them you bought the rifle specifically for a hunt thats coming up and you need this issue solved with out a gun smith! ASAP....they should give LeBarons the ok for an exchange then Lebarons will send the rifle to a smith or back to the factory......You should not be made to wait the gun should not cost you a dime to get working Remington should take care of you like Savage did for me a month ago.

bwahahaha classic defend the Rem and bash the savage he should not have to spend a dime on the Rem to make it shoot and work properly!....If he spent the $1000 on the Savage he wouldn't have this head ache and if he did I know for a fact Savage would get him a new rifle with out having to wait a month for a gunsmith to "check it over"......You prove Remington has their customers trained to know their rifles are crap out of the box and will require work and $$$ to make them work properly and you and all the other Rem nut huggers seem to be ok with that.....now thats pathetic....When I buy a rifle it better work and work properly if not it better get replaced ASAP and cost me minimal down time and no extra money.

Oh my buddy beaverfur and I did some load development with my Savage this past weekend managed a 3/8" 100yd 5 shot group and a 5/8" 200yd group with some 55gr vmax's not bad for a $699 Savage.

Oh Jebus, here we go again...

If I bought anything brand new I would not be willing to spend money on it in order for it to function properly, regardless of my brand affinity. Nor should this guy have to do so.

This isn't a Remington vs Savage argument, it's a customer service issue. Every manufacturer has those regardless of brand.

Let's just sit back & see what happens. My SPS shoots well but does have a tighter chamber then my Ruger. It just is the way it is. I work different loads for each gun. It's Remingtons turn at bat, let's see how they do before we get too concerned.

Don't let the "one rotten orange in the box" sway you from whatever company made the rifle.

Every manufacturer of every product ever made has their lemons. This is fact.

If getting the one bad rifle in the bunch swayed someone from never buying that product again, srt4u2nv would not be singing the high praises of his beloved Savage. He would probably be singing a different tune if it hadn't been for the customer service of their factory.

Contact Remington directly (as has been stated) and see what they can do for you before jumping on the "never buying from this company again" bandwagon.

It has been stated over and over in the past that any of the rifle manufacturers can put out a 5pm Friday Special it just sucks that you happened to find one.

I have 3 Remington actions in use (+1 in line for a build) and 2 Savage rifles and I prefer my Rem's over my Savages. I have more issues with those 2 Savage rifles than I have had with all 3 Remington's that I currently run.

Yup I loves me Savage :D

I also love my 700SPS buckmasters its a great rifle but it has a longer list of flaws/cons then the Savage does.....I still want a Remington 700LSS .257wby and will likely buy one in the future...

Both companies make great rifles and both companies make lemons from time to time the part that matters is how they take care of their customers when there is an issue.....So lets see how Remington does with this opportunity to right a wrong and create a customer for life or loose one.

Update:

I went to lebaron and show them the rifle and explain the problems. The guy there check it out all around, and concluded.

Rifle ( in his opinion) has crappy extractor, and chamber is undersized, as well as mag follower is off. Also bolt nut are off and needs to be replaced.

They took the gun and will send it to Remington Canada in Quebec ASAP. for either replacement or possible fixing. At this time rifle is considered as malfunctioning.

I have feeling its my first and last Remington, same as years ago when I bought brand new Ford and weekly runs to dealership for fixing, after that I bought Nissan and never been more happier, 5 yrs old and running like new.

cheers

I have a nicely modified 700 sps tactical and I absolutly love the thing, removing all the so called flaws and weeknesses was one of the most fun parts of this rifle build. When reserching what gun to buy it was very clear what the Rem sps family seemed to be lacking compared to a factory high spec rifle, after all I have done and the time spent at the range I find I probably personallized and build my perfect rifle so all in all I find it a perfect beginners/affordable kick ass sub 1" MOA rifle if not better.

I have experienced this tight fitting issue when loading some shells, however it has only been with .308 reloads and regardless of how tight it was it still shot fine. I was very curious when this happened as it was very different from every other factory ammo I have used, we have started to reload ourselves so hopefully this is something I learn more about as I further educate my self in the area.

Good luck with this rifle, hopefully you can figure the problems out.

Cheers,
Evan

Looking at the pictures, it doesnt look like metal shavings from the actual rifle but rather from the casings themselves. The shavings are gold colored rather then silver. I know my 700 tactical does that. After every-time I shoot I have to wipe off the loose brass, its just all the edges are sharp inside my rifle and lightly scrape the casings. After using the rifle more it should smooth out.

To me they have already dropped the ball you just bought the rifle days ago and now they expect you to be with out your new rifle for likely a month or more due to their screw up?.....Nope I wouldn't be happy with that at all...Thats what Savage wanted to do to me and I said no freaking way I want my money back or I want another rifle there is no way I am going to be with out it for a month....

Its not your fault this happened Remington should have authorized an exchange through LeBarons then LeBarons sends the broken rifle out for repair and you have no down time due to Remington's screw up.

Make sure you Call the repair depot and let them know your rifle is coming in and what the issues were....Make it clear your not happy and you want this solved ASAP.
