How much interest in a Canadian limited edition Ruger No.1?

how about 303 EH-0001 ??

(just kidding)

not sure how 303 works in short barrels, but RSIs are sweet looking.
a little more problematic with the full stock tho.

RSI or light sporter (1A?) for me.

Ruger # 1..303BR

The Int'l version is probably more expensive due to the extra wood and fitting of same...As this was commenced specificly about getting a Ruger #1 in 303BR chambering, it would probably be helpful to those driving the plan if the rest of us stick to the issue at hand.

I personaly have 3 'custom' #1's..or should I say custom rifles built on #1 Ruger actions. I can assure they all cost MUCH more than what we are talking about here, which is in essence, availability of a standard product ruger rifle, but in .303 british chambering. (a spl serial # series is no big deal); but when you start talking , spl stock configuration, cheekpieces, french grey receivers, express sight, blah, blah and blah...we are getting into the realm of a true custom rifle and not something that Ruger or anyone else for that matter is going to entertain building for the costs of their std production guns.

As to what Remington may or may not do. Who Cares. This thread was about obtaining Ruger #1s in 303BR,, not 7x57, 18 shutzenboomer, or any other cal. Nor is it about what other rifles could be chambered in 303BR

Again a custom rifle operation..YOU can get anything YOU want made if you want to pay for it..doesn't mean 250 0r even 2 other people want the same thing if paying that amount.

Lets stick to basics and the topic at hand..Which is a basic production Ruger #1 chambered for .303 BR. the question is still what model

- light sporter..1A
- med sporter.. 1S (my vote)
- RSI (poss already discounted)

To the reloaders amongst us. a question more pertinent to the issue would be what kind of twist we want in the barrel. Original .303 specs were developed for 215gr bullets. Are those specs the best for the 150 - 180 grainers which are all that is available today?

in short the KISS principal should be applied here.

What he said:D

And you can put me on that list to Clay:)

I seriously doubt that it would ever be feasible for Remington to make a 700 in .303. Rigby made a few Mausers in .303, but they required a special slanted magazine box, considerably different from any other calibre. Accommodating .303 would be a much more difficult feat than a semi-rimmed cartridge like the .220 Swift. That Remington would go to the trouble for something with such limited demand would be highly unlikely. Of course, given Remington's reputation for quality control these days, it probably wouldn't work so well anyway.

Magazine rifles are best suited for rimless cartridges. Single shots and doubles are best suited to rimmed cartridges.

yes to what 585N said.

the rsi is not my first choice , having owned one.

i thought the S model had a 26" barrel, my bad.
they run a 22" barrel and weigh .25lbs more than a light sporter.

in order to KISS ... either model A or S is fine by me.
must be 303 Brit.

i have sent an e mail to prophet but no reply as yet. he is probably still looking at the logistics. here's hoping it works out. a commonwealth rifle as clay suggested is not a bad idea. if only to get the sales numbers up and therefore the cost down.

i shall wait for the out come of this venture. it's a good one.

sorry guys. we are getting a pile of emails and PM's on this. I try to open each but don't always take time to reply. Really getting behind, especially on those that have suggestions and questions that deserve a reply more than 'OK, thanks'.
Lots of good news, firstly, as far as I can tell, we are up to 87 rifles now. Sales rep was very excited too(of course, its $$$ for him) They are in contact with Ruger and they've been following the forums too. Seems this is going right around the world, literally, with lots of interest in the US, Australia, GB, and here in Canada, of course.
He did warn that Ruger can be hard to deal with this time of year as they are winding down for hollidays.
Ideally, I'll love to give the go ahead early in January with enough orders to get this going.

I'd take an 1-A with walnut.

The International version doesn't do it for me.

.

I'm in for making it Commonwealth. If it helps get this project going, all good. I'm sure a slight adjustment in the serial number lots by country wouldn't be an issue.

Hey Clay, I still want Serial No. 1 & 2, Canadian or Commonwealth....:D
If Clay wants to set up a poll, I think I'll let him do it. As he has been the one taking orders & knows what the guys, who confirmed that they'd take one, want.
A global desire for a No.1 in .303 would be a good thing.

I'm quite content to share a batch of "Commonwealth Specials" with Australia, N.Z., S. Africa or anyone else, as long as it's in .303British. Ruger said 250 is the minimum order for a custom chambering - I doubt if they'll put a cap on it as long as they are all ordered at once.

I agree... Better odds of seeing this become reality.

I am most interested in the 22" bbl 1A.

On the RSI. If you cut the for-end down (easy to do and cheap) you end up with a very sweet little 20"bbl rifle. So don't let an RSI stop any of you!! It wouldn't stop me that is for sure.

Being that the Ruger No.1 action is quite strong, would it be safe for us handloaders to sweaten up the old 303's powder charge to near 308 velocities? And I would assume the chambers would be cut to true 303 British specs and not reamed out like the war production rifles, so brass life would be greatly increased.

I hope that we get to the point where the cap is the issue. ;)
We are nearing 90. So, next week, it might be deposit time. Its happenned so quick and I'd like more answers from Ruger before I take in $$$ as its expensive for me to take it in and give it back if we can't make this happen.
