Ruger makes several #1 models with up to a 26" barrel, so there should be no problem unless we want to go beyond that. I say order it with a 26" tube with the standard 1/4 rib, built in scope bases, rings as per usual, and the standard iron sights. all stock ruger Fare for simplicity.
Anyone who wants it shorter can cut it off....they don't stretch worth a damn. and by the way..barrel length is the easiest way to gain velocity..even with a .303. Many of the early British guns used 28 & 30" barrels on these with the heavy bullets.
For those with all the 'individual tastes and special needs' Martini makes an excellent single shot rifle..starting at about $17,000 Can. Call him and see if he will cut you a personal deal for $1300- $1500 !!!!!!!
Clay, If we get to the point where you need deposits, I will be happy to send you a supply of aspirin/tylenol for the headaches you are no doubt developing.
Thanks in advance for your efforts to date!
DANG- somebody beat me to it!!

Likely not a factory barrel, just a factory contour?
NOT for $1700 , mind you!

Actually, I think this was a custom built rifle. I posted our efforts on this "special" on the rugerforum, and a member there posted the gunsinternational ad.
I also wonder what case hardening the receiver might cost.
Does anyone have any idea? Maybe Clay will chime in.
