The NEW KING is taking off!

I was thinking of working off a Rem 700 action, with a wild cat idea (smaller calibre). Yes there is the .375 RUM but, mag length would be better suited to a .300 win mag length case ( H&H is longer) and not be too over- bored , for a long range - hunting rig??? No belt ( not that I have had any problems with the belt) and no super mag bolt face. I just think it would make for a neat wildcat case to work off of!!

Ruger case is beltless so a lengthened 375 Ruger would be a 375RUM oh yeah... :p

The Ruger case is smaller in diameter than the RUM so a full length Ruger would still be less capacity than the RUM. If you are looking for max bang the 378 and Rum are hard to beat. If the RUM was in something other than a Rem 700 I would want one. I know custom is an option.

Spooksar told me that if you go on a hunt in Africa and your ammo is lost in transit, bout the only ammo you have any chance of getting there is 375..............

H&H

Not Ruger. ;)

Heil!

What about the pressure issues in the African heat? It's kind of like how the .416 Remington was the 'new king' when it was introduced, then everyone in Africa went back to the .416 Rigby because it's lower operating pressures worked better in the African heat in bolt actions.

The Ruger case capacity is slightly larger than the H&H. Given the same velocity, the larger case will get it done with less pressure.

As for availability of ammo in Africa? Lots of guys take exotic cartridge chambered rifles to hunt Africa. You aren't going to find all that stuff on the local African gun store shelves, so there must be some way these hunters are managing to get ammo to hunt with.:p:p

By not flying Air Canada and loosing luggage?

I think there could be several ways. Ideas that pop to mind off the top of my had include:

Ship ammo to your PH prior to arrival.

Split ammo up among your companions luggage so that there is some selection of ammo for all rifles in each bag.

Thank you, Gatehouse, for the ride on this Insanity Train. I haven't laughed this hard in weeks!!!!!

After 3 pages, I had to keep going, just to see what you said next.

HAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHAH<snort>HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH!!!

If I could I'd drink to this thread... but alas... I'm in a dry community.... Humbug!

Yup. You take a wildcat based on the 375 H&H case so that if need be you can use the 375 H&H ammo. There are other selections available in Pretoria and Johannesburg, but no where else on the continent. FWIW - dan

I may be old school but you'll never see me with anything WSM or the 375 Booger. There, if you can't beat 'em call 'em names. The Ruger round and gun do make sence for new guys to med. bore guns. If they could find something other than the ugly synthetic stock on the Alaskin the 416 would be kinda cool. I'll still stick with my 416 Rem. Mag. though.
