PPC vs IPSC vs IDPA

The fact that you are limited to three mags in IDPA will save a new shooter a couple bucks over the large number of mags that the IPSC shooters carry. The maximum required shot limit (18) is a lot lower than IPSC as well, thus saving a few bucks.

If the cost of the extra 2 magazines is going to hamper your shooting IPSC.......well you should not be shooting at all IMHO as you clearly need a cheaper hobby.

Also to me the 18 shot limit is a detracting part of IDPA. I just like more trigger time. If I am going to drive umteen KM to a match.........I want to SHOOT!!!! LOL!

I currently shoot IDPA and wouldn't mind trying IPSC sometime down the road (I'm not prejudiced, lol)..

I am the reverse........I am an IPSC shooter and have shot some *DPA in the past. Now some guys want to start shooting IDPA at my club (using the IPSC Sections props I might add) so I might just try it out as well seeing as I have so much blood (copious amounts) sweat and tears invested in the props.

I would prefer more stages and lower round count in a stage. A level II used to be 6 or more stages...now we shoot 4 big ones and it counts, it's getting boring. I like the different start positions, different props, lots of starts. I would like to see a level II with 8 or 10 smaller stages and a level III with 15 or more stages. I'd like to see the draw matter in a stage and shooting skill have an effect rather than cramming as many targets in a stage or port (usually ends up all the targets close and stapled together to make them fit) and blasting at them close up.

The answer is simple. Get involved at your club and volunteer to design the stages for a club level shoot. Work with the MD in any capacity you can. Our sports need all the input they can get and there is no surplus of volunteers.

Well you get an IDPA club going at yuor club and I am sure they will invest copius amounts of blood sweat and tears in building more props for you club. Stormy shooting IDPA - what's that you say the world is round? The earth goes around the sun???:D :D:D Hey you might even enjoy it.

That is in fact the hope with this crew.

Sadly others that wanted to start IDPA in the past as well as SASS felt that there was no need for them to make any props at all as IPSC had made sufficient for EVERYBODY! They then proceeded to blast the hell out of everything and gave up the ghost when asked to help rebuild it.

Lol...well I've designed, built annd run Level I, II and III matches, does that count? I'll also be involved with Sharon matches this year...in fact I'm designing stages as we speak...

go to some Maritime matches. Our level 2's are minimum 7-8 stages, 120-160 rd count, whilst level 3's are generally 16-18 stages, 300+ rds!!:ar15:
The Dalhousie Summer Slam (or Fall slam;) ) is the most underated match in Canada. There is a reason the Quebec shooters and some NS shooters (as well as ONt shooters) come down every year for it,lots of fun, awesome people who make everyone feel welcome. Go to the Restigouche gun club website, lots of pics of the facilities.

Can't say about the draw, but I kinda agree about cramping targets together. Though at indoor ranges there isn't much space to work with.

+2 for the Restigouche County Sport and Gun Club

A level 3 here is always a good show and we get great support from our community.

I dunno. I've seen the prices on some of the mags for stuff like Para's and such, mind you I cannot afford a Para either...

Nothing stopping you from shooting targets more than twice (unless they state limited vickers). The 18 rounds is a limit imposed for IDPA CoF design. Just like all the additional rules differentiate IPSC with IDPA. All part of the game.
I'm just too cheap to shoot IPSC...

Organize a work party with them to make new ISPC props and give them the old ones for IDPA :)

The 18 round limit is per stage. Minimum number of stages for a Sanctioned Match is 8 with a minimum round count of 100. I think you would agree tis is hardly a distraction.

That's fine, but I like the 3-gun we shoot down south...
'Round counts in the hundreds :)

There has always been an illusion that IPSC is expensive, but you can use the exact same gear as IDPA, you might need a couple of extra mags and holders but thats it. I got a Kimber 1911 with 5 mags, holster and pouches for $1100. You can't get much cheaper than that and if saving the extra $70 for 5 mags instead of 3 keeps you from playing...

club level idpa will incorporate other guns as well. shotguns , carbines, second hand gun, .22's what ever.

Not at IDPA Club matches unless the club want to lose their affiliation. Side matches yes but not IDPA by rule and not for score.

( We shoot .22lr only in the winter months but they are not IDPA matches.)

We have. I think Hedgehog meant that the same group of guys at our club that shoot IDPA sometimes incorporate other guns, shotguns, etc to make a fun day of it. These shoots have nothing to do with an IDPA match. I went to an IPSC match at our club that incorporated a shotgun as well. Extreme fun!

IDPA is a pistol sport. There has been talk of having a set of rules for IDPA 3 Gun Matches and I believe the subject maybe dealt with when the next rule book revision comes out later this spring. IDPA matches though will be restricted to pistols only. If HQ does establish rules for 3 Gun Matches those matches would be in addition to IDPA pistol match rules. The two disciplines ie 3 Gun and Pistol would not be mixed in IDPA events. Host one or the other but not intertwined. Side matches such as stump shoots, bowling pins etc can be done after the pistol event now and are.

ps For those who like shooting a lot of rounds "Stump" matches are great fun and a lesson in frustration.
