Range Report for the Javelina
Hello Gents,
Took apart the Javelina on Thursday night for a cleaning/inspection. Everything went easy/peasy. Seems like a really solidly built unit and exactly what you'd expect for a 1911 beefed up for the 10mm round. A couple of things that were unexpected (kinda as I read about them before), the recoil spring was of stock government length as was the guide rod. The spring plug is over 2 inches long and mostly solid
As a side note, the slide pull is quite heavy. Not as heavy as my Desert Eagle 44 but a close second. Lubed her up with G96 (out of Breakfree CLP) and greased the rails on the slide and receiver.
Hit the range Friday with high hopes and to be honest fingers crossed. Brought 2 boxes of American Eagle 10mm 180gr (all P&D had to choose from), loaded up the mags and had at her. Well to make a long story short it made shooting at 7 yards out a absolute joke, in a good way
Best grouping every with a new pistol and as my range buddy remarked "well it's definitely not you"
Ran though both boxes with no FTF or FTE or anything even resembling a mechanical hiccup
While I know two boxes is not the ultimate measure of a pistols performance/reliability, first impressions are very good. Pushed the target out to 25yds and offhand still managed to put them all on the paper (yes, they were the smaller targets, not the full-sized silhouettes). Should be able to do way better with more practice.
So all that's left is to get reloading, some more range trips and maybe have some fun with HOT 10mm reloads!
