PAL "in progress"

Oh man 34 days since cfc received my application and no reference calls yet and status still say "in progress" the wait is agonizing..... BTW i'm in Alberta.

Been waiting since early November for PAL-RPAL. Talked to the nice lady in Miramichi and she said to call the Alberta CFO as she sees no problems with the application going through. The wait is because one of my references was out of the country until the 24th of December holding up the process for a month. Not sure if having a 20+ year expired FAC is slowing things down.
I have to pass yearly security checks, psychological, drug and alcohol through work and police checks to coach at my daughters high school so i know that end is good so i guess i just keep waiting.
Have purchased my 1st 4 firearms that are waiting for me down at the gunshop just need the paperwork and a few thousand rounds and im good to go and a family member is holding on to a few more for me.
My daughter is the one that brought me back to shooting after finding old pics of me at the range, and for my birthday a few years ago took me to the local rent a gun range. Since that trip we have shot upwards of 15000 rounds and have now decided to compete in IPSC so next up is the black badge course and a reloading course to keep costs down.I would never have guessed my daughter to be into shooting sports but it has really brought us closer together and in the process of shooting at the rental range my daughter was taken under the wing of a former canadian womens champion and mentored.
She also wants to get into cowboy shooting so that looks like more firearms to buy. Other than the cost i really dont see any downside to this at all and i think its the best money i have ever spent.
Only thing i need now is my own mentor as my daughter can now out shoot me so if any world champions have some free time..... lol getting out shot by a 15 year old girl sure beats up on the old pride.

Just recieved my RPAL today. I sent it off in the mail on December 14th, they called only one of my references, who happens to be a VPD constable. 36 days later I have it in my hands. With the obvious Christmas vacation for govt. workers I would say that was a pretty quick license approval. Oh, I already had my PAL before I upgraded to the RPAL, if that makes any difference in the approval time.

I had reason to talk to the RC's today, and asked the girl if they used any type of "Voice Stress" gizmo on the interview questions...and she just laughed...and said everybody gets asked the same questions....they rotate people through the different departments and when she got to the 'interview' section, she said, "I can't ask those questions..."and she was told she had to...

go figure....

Now I typed my name for an update and its say " no info on my applicaton" Yesterday it said it was "in progress" , Whats that about ???

They got mine on the 22 on December, had the message that my RPAL is in the mail on the
18th or so. So less then a month for everything. I must be a good boy :p

Just mailed mine in, Expresspost, should be there on monday. Took 6 weeks to get my safety course forms back from Orillia, hopefully this part will go quicker.

Anyone have an idea how strict they are on the photos? No matter what i did, I couldn't fit my shoulders in and keep my head at the required 30mm min. height. That guy they have on the instruction sheet is not shaped like a standard human.

When I first applied for my POL I didn't have any passport type of photo's and I wasn't happy about having to jump through more hoops just to continue owning guns I had for years before, soooo,
I sent in a photo my wife took of me cleaning dog crap out of my back yard.
I wasn't happy about her taking a picture of me doing that so I was giving her "The Finger" in the picture. I thought it was kind of suitable to be flipping "the bird" to the government in regards to needing a firearms licence.:D
They just cut out everything but my face and processed it anyway.
So I would have to say that if your face fits on the card they should be o.k. with it.

Just called the Alberta CFO and.......Drum roll please.....Accepted and will be in my hands in 7 working days

:dancingbanana: I phoned CFO office in Edmonton today and they said wait for 2 more weeks or so "been 38 days" said ok thanks, hung up. Went home check status on application and Said "no info" whereas before it said it was" in progress" I was like wtf ?. Called CFC office to see what was up and lady said it was APPROVED and will have it in under 2 weeks". Website still says "no info" still .

Cheers

Mine went into the mail last Thursday (the 14th). I am disappointed I don't have it yet and that there is nothing on the CFC website :(

You should be fine, from the thousands of pics they go through, unless half of your face is cut off you're fine.

One thing I've never understood... is the card produced in NB and sent to your local CFO to be issued or is the info processed in NB and your local CFO produces the card and issues it or what? Never understood if the card was sent from a local office or one in NB.

It seems to me that if there are no problems or questions then the card is produced in NB and sent to you direct but if the RCMP need more info the card is sent to your local CFO for further investigation and then issued from that local office, this would seem to account for the shipping time differences for those in Ontario and those of us in western provinces.

I just renewed mine as well as my D.L.
Nice to have them both expire the same year.
It's quick and painless now, and you can even take your own picture.
All it costs is the stamp.

Alright good, I was a little worried, but feeling better now. I deal with government beurocrats frequently, and have lost months of waiting time in similar situations.

According to Canada Post it arrived today, as expected. No info yet on the site.
