Would You Hunt Dog

Trying to make a point ... I have no problem with splattering the brains of an animal all over the place and personally love turning gophers inside out however the child would not have been hurt if the population of dogs were controlled in the first place ...
Oh and why were the dogs running loose ? I have to have mine on a leash was it perhaps because it was on a reserve and they don't have to follow the same laws as every one else ?

Well you can make your point without flying off saying the dog owners should be shot! A little tact goes a long way and whether you like to believe it or not the pen is mightier than the sword. By the way when did this become a Native Laws thread? I am metis, don't live on a reserve, no longer own a dog and never let him run loose when I did. Sounds to me like you have a bee in your bonnet, maybe you shouldnt be allowed to own a gun? You sound to me like the kind of guy who may just lose his temper and use it!

The Indian reserve near where I live do it every year or 2. There are often lots of strays/ferals/whatever you want to call it on reserves, and they need to get thinned out from time to time. In a perfect world, everyone would spay or neuter their dog, but it's not illegal to NOT do so, so there really isn't any way to force people to do so.

So they are still doing the Mt Currie Tribal Police Dump Dog Safari eh.

At least we agree on that - you need to do BOTH: deal with the extant problem, and work to prevent a future problem.

I agree that it's disgusting to clean up after a group of people who take no responsibility for their actions in the first place... but what's done is done and the immediate solution is to cull the pack. After that comes the re-education/enforcement of better animal husbandry/domestication practices.

Thats all I was trying to say ......
I was watching the news last night of a bunch of people wandering around their reserve and commenting that there is a problem and somebody should do something ... it just annoys the crap out of me ..... and if they knew there was a dog problem why was the kid in a situation that he could get hurt ?
the stray dogs seem to be feral as they are left to breed on their own and fend for themselves , even the dogs with collars are out looking for food as they are not being fed or given proper care .... when you create a problem like this I find it hard to blame the animal .... an no I am not going to go shoot the people , only way I would shoot people is if my country enlisted me into the military , gave me a gun and told me to kill the enemy were were at war with ...

I love dogs .... I see the need to kill dogs if they are hunting people however you need to address the bigger picture of how the dogs got to be out of control in the first place ...

Oh ..... and I am from this FU #*'N world , the one we are all in so lets make the best of it shall we ?

when did you become a psychiatrist ?

Stray dogs are domesticated dogs with owners that have irresponsibly left them unattended (either got off their leash or out of their yards). Feral dogs are abandoned animals that rove sometimes in packs and have no respect for humans and IMO are not domesticated. There is a big dfference here... Similiar to feral cats and domestic cats, you can't lump them all together and have at.

i wouldnt have a problem doing it, almost had to when a pack of them killed my sisters brand new colt she had payed thousands for and they also killed a neighbours horse.... the farmers were letting their dogs run wild and refusing to do anything about them, the dogs would all meet up and harass the local livestock.... thankfully the farmers took care of it after the police were involved and the treat of shooting the dogs was made

Dogs running wild during calving season in southern Alberta are shot on sight, not by me but buy several others. FS

From what I have been seeing and reading is that the stray dogs are becomeing feral .. The strays are joing packs of wild / feral dogs and learning how to kill for food .... same thing that happened in louisiana after Katrina ... good natured dogs / family pets that were left on their own had no choice but to fend for themselves ... when they started to attach humans and spread desease they were shot on site by the military ... act of God or whatever you want to call it gave them no choice .... people in this story seem to have a choice.

Once again , irresponsible people and the animal pays for it .... any responsible dog owner would understand that and keep their dogs chained up during calfing season ....

Well, now that we got that straightened out let me buy you an internet beer and we can go watch the internet hockey game down at the internet bar. :D

my grandpa adolph's job during the depression was to cull the strays.

i wouldnt volunteer for it, but i realize the necessity.

Well....

As Gatehouse says, it is a necessary evil. I just hope that when a dog is destroyed in a quick and human manner.

A bud of mine was working on a contract on a res on the West Coast, and was told that he had best get a bunch of flagging tape onto his dog's collar if he wanted it around by days end.

They were on shoot on sight rules there. Flagging tape was a sign that it was NOT one of the ferals or their hangarounds.

Hey, though. You could actually get a permit for a suppressor, as the authorized designate of a Municipal Authority, if I'm recalling what I read, correctly.

PITA job, but its gotta be done.

Cheers
