Would You Hunt Dog

There's nothing wrong with shooting coyotes so there shouldn't be anything wrong with shooting wild dogs.

Some of the nicest people I met were dogs ..... how about shooting the people that let the dogs over breed and get out of control in the first place ?

I would first try and rescue the dogs that you could , then ban the people on the reserve from having dogs ever again and if I was attacked by a dog I would agree with killing it as a matter of self defense .

just going in and shooting dogs because a bunch of people were too lazy to spay and neuter their pets is just wrong .... gotta fix the problem where it starts from ... the people responsible for the dogs.

Your kidding right? Cause banning works.....

i live near the six nations reserve and hunt both on and around the reserve. judging by the amount of "wild dogs" running around id say there are more of them than coyotes around here. i have heard quite a few stories about these dogs that people abandon following and sometimes attacking people. they also attack/kill dogs that are chained up for their food. my great uncle was chased to his house by one of these critters. the dog ruined the wood door from trying to get into the house and get my uncle. i guess a 30-06 does quite a number on em from 2ft away;)

i have and will continue to shoot these things to protect wildlife, people and their pets. cats are also on the hit list :ar15: live trapping cats in the city and taking them to the spca is another great way to help control the population.

now before you nancy's start crying and telling me how mean i am...i have always been a dog person and treat my dogs like a part of the family. cats are ok too i guess as long as they are kept inside. but both animals running wild need to be dealt with in a humane manner. i do not enjoy shooting these animals, but think of it as a job that needs to be done.

that said, it would be great to lay an ass whoopin on the idiots that dump cats and dogs in the bush. :)

Wow some of you are truly f**ked, I don't give a crap how you rationalize it, killing strays is wrong, I'm not talking about feral dogs here, strays deserve a bit more respect. For anyone here who doesn't like dogs wow I truly feel sad for you, and there really has to be something missing mentally if you actually look forward to something like this. Mans best friend is exactly that, we should treat them as we would another human being, period. I have no doubt that some of you wouldn't mind shooting a "stray" human so I doubt you will understand anything I'm trying to say here, I just hope that when the shoe is on the other foot a pet will show you the love you obviously never got as a child.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

maybe once you see the result of wild dogs killing a chained up pooch will change how you feel about them? how about farmers losing livestock to these animals that show no fear of humans? these things are likely 10000x more likely to attack than coyotes.

dogs are basically domesticated wolves and coyotes. thousands of these critters are shot every year with nobody complaining except for PETA douchebags. once dogs are turned wild by joining a wild pack or being secluded in the bush for a while there is no turning them back as they have already turned back to their roots...wild animals that will do anything for food.

the only good wild mutt is a dead one.

A young boy was killed guys. Damn rights I would shoot the dogs. I know it's an unfortunate situation for the dogs because it isn't thier fault for being abandoned. But it is and has been an ongoing problem in the northern communities and the only way to eliminate the chance of another child being hurt or killed is to get rid of the dogs and then try to make the people who let these dogs run, understand that they are still your pet even once the cute puppy stage is done.

Maybe more people have to be mauled, killed or eaten before these pet owners realize that letting dogs fend for themselves is not a responsible way of dealing with a pet they dont want or abandon, to run free and become a predator. They know who they are and must feel some guilt?.... or maybe they have no moral conscience at all??...

Many moons ago, I was asked by the humane society to remove a pack of feral dogs. They are not simply a stray. They are full blown wild, with no fear whatsoever of humans. YOU ARE ON THEIR FOOD CHAIN TOO. This particular pack had dens and pups. I located the dens, and was immediately attacked. My brother in law was attacked the night before while walking home from his brothers place. If there is a problem, and they are truly feral, count me in.

I've shot a couple of dogs over the years and several hundred cats. If a strange dog comes onto my property uninvited and unescorted I will shoot near him to run him off. If he comes back, he will go down. Cats get no second chances. Now an animal that is simply passing through is not killed. I am talking about the critters that come to fight, feed or ####.

My dogs are trained not to leave the property. If they do and get shot by one of the neighbors, I will be sad but I understand that that is just way things are done out here. Cats in the foothills of Alberta are on a frequent rotation. A lot of folks around here just name all the males Tom and the females Momma. Tom may be a black cat one week and white the next.

Cyprus patrol

We had a squad in the military when I was on tour in Cyprus that had the job and only job of going around and disposing of stray dogs.

And as I recall those patrols were not always with firearms!! Something we all affectionately called a 'puppy-pounder' was used!! If we aren't careful that is what we will all be packing to protect ourselves and loved ones!!

I couldn't shoot a dog unless it was half way up my leg. Little bugger better cher hard because then I'd be ready... i did hear a boy was killed, then heard 25 were killed by cars. Since then I've fired at a dozen cars. Well, there more of a risk then dogs, right?

With a 50 cal !!??? That would be a huge mess of dog meat.

Ah, Hell! ! ! I was being conservative. My brother-in-law is a major in the Armed Forces, I could talk him into getting a 105mm out on loan or maybe if we sneak a a few hookers and some booze onto the base , he could call in an airstrike ! ! ! !

But would you eat dog?
A friend was a timber cruiser on VI, and they liked stopping in to his cabin around lunch time. After eatting one day, the old trapper asked him what he ate. Deer? No. Elk? No. Bear? No . . . Wild Dog.
Any dog running on crown land is subject to open season. Any dog viciously pursuing livestock is a dead dog.

I realize by your avatar and your location you might not have a clue about the way it is in northern Sask (that's the one in the middle of the country with the staight sides!) In alot of these communities dogs out number cars.
Also this young boy spent time in our community and he was a special little guy. So a crass, thoughtless remark like yours I take a bit of offense to. Maybe because it was closer to me than you, or maybe because I am a father and have kids of my own.
I might be over reacting but when you know a bit more of the situation and some of the people that were part of this little guys life it makes you take it a little more seriously.
