Leapers M-14 Tri-rail Handguard

Get an Ultimak - available from Brownells - way better quality and security retention compared to the Leapers. Worth the few extra sheckels - :)

still looking for a leapers mount, anyone know where to buy one in Canada or maybe a US store that will ship to Canada.

Fabsports.ca if he has any
Or ebay. Scope mounts including this one do not fall under gunparts anymore so any u.s. Seller can ship it here.

Thank you for your suggestions;

Fabsports is out of stock right now, I have been checking on ebay and there are currently none. Do you have any other ideas? Jon.

Try brownells maybe but not sure if they stock them
Also most of the ones I've bought of ebay were found not in open listings but by searching the ebay stored of sellers listing other leapers/utg products. I think one was omega ordnance werkes if they are still around on ebay.

Got mine where Satain suggested.

They ship to Canada. Mine was shipped 2 weeks ago and tracking shows it's at Canada customs for a week already. Maybe it's out but tracking isn't showing it. Hopefully it's not stuck under someone's bum there.

I have my tri rail on for purely cosmetic purposes to replace the original plastic cover...I didn't think it would be good enough to mount a scope or optic, but after what some folks have said here, I may try it

Been looking at both of these mounts, and before you compare the Ultimak to the tri-rail, you should note the one major difference between them (other than price) and that's how far back the rails go.

The Tri-Rail allows for the scope / risers / rings to be mounted much further back towards the eye.

This one is a more forward scout rail, and while you could move the optics back with a riser / cantilever rail, you are forced to start what looks like 3-4inches further ahead.

Could be something worth considering, besides cost...and looks.:D

Agreed, ran an eotech with confidence on mine.
And shortly I'll releasing an accessory to the tri rail that will be a must have addition for those wanting to use standard eye relief optics or red dots and magnifiers.

Nice to hear Doc.

Been reading all the tri-rail threads for the last hour or more, and have gone from loving it to worrying about using it with a cantilever riser and maintaining a solid connection / holding zero without a stripper clip connection. I still LOVE how the tri-rail looks, but form follows function.

Wasn't sure if your project was still going ahead, obviously it it! Can't wait to see what you have and pick one up.

Merllin,

Can you elaborate further on the brackets and screws?

SH

Can I second this request for further details. Approx. Price, process etc. Did you buy the mount from P&D (short google showed that Kevin Koen is associated with them), already upgraded, or did you send it to them etc.

M14Doctor, Will that accessory be just for the tri-rail, or will it also do stuff for the Ultimak?

Yes but its higher (co witness if that is important) - And cantilever flexes with no rear anchor. Needs an unobtanium rear stripper clip guide mount for a rear ring (I have one ;) - Thanx Thomas !) :D.

But I think they have been promised for the last couple of years -

You should send that one back to me so I can measure it up. I can have 100 of those made in a flash... I'll return yours and a half dozen new ones LOL
The new tri rail accesory, not the original I shouldn't have sold to chopper :D is different and designed specifically for the utg.
The original version, which I shelved for lack of my own tooling.... Is compatable with sage and akm stocks, utg tri rails ect, but only has one slot. My new accessory.... Well let's just say it has more than one slot. :D

I PM'd Merllin with my question and was told the mods were done by his gunsmith so he can't really say how it was undertaken. What he did say was that the steps were taken because he wanted to accurize his rifle. If you are just shooting for fun, it should not need any mod. I installed my tri-rail myself and it looks pretty solid. I am using a scope with intermediate eye relief so it can be mounted forward without the need for the cantilever or stripper clip guide mount. Still have to test the setup at the range.
