Here's a photo of my 375 H&H, it has a period correct Griffin & Howe quick release scope mount holding a Kollmorgen Bearcub 4x scope, with the scope out you can slide in a Lyman peep.

I've also got a 300 H&H in pristine condition with Warne QD rings and a Burris scope, and a Westerner in 264 Win mag with Warne QD rings and a Zeiss scope. I just sold a 270 to my brother and I'm watching for a 270 fwt. All of these rifles get hunted a lot, especially the 300 H&H, I just bring a stainless synthetic 338 to switch to in case it really rains. I just used the Westerner to drop the pronghorn in the photo by my name, a 398 yard shot.
 
well I lucked into a another Pre 64 Model 70 today thanks to a great guy in a local gunshop...it's as tragic as it is interesting...here are a few pics......the last pic tells the tragic tale......if you like Pre'64 Model 70's and are the least bit squeamish about what gunsmiths may have done to them in the past...don't look at the last picture...:rolleyes:..but in the 50's and 60's a Pre'64 Model 70 was just another rifle....and I've since rechambered it to 257 Weatherby...
It dates to 1955.

I was frigging shaking when I saw that:eek::confused:......how in he11 can people do that?...but, it was probably done a long time ago...

now,..to figure out exactly what the chamber is...the barrel is stamped 250 Magnum but the old fellow that owned it left a note with the rifle, which I have, saying it was rechambered to 257 Ackley Magnum.....it is a belted case,..I can see the belt recess in the chamber......it's about .10" shorter to the neck than a 7 Mag case.....
 
Oh yuk, I had to look too. freakin' rechambers, I just had to send one back to a shop for a refund...300H&H that had been recut to 300 Mashburn Super. Great looking gun, too bad it had "issues":( Ah, the quest continues for a non-buggered 300.....
 
I have a 264wm that I was told came in Stainless
Someone tried to blue it at some time past
Now it looks like a Pinto with circles of Stainless showing through


Anyone have any thoughts on if this can be reversed

The stainless barrels on pre 64 model 70's were sand blasted and plated with iron which then took the rust blue. The later pre 64 model 70's were blued using a Du-Lite blue process. So even though they were stainless barrels, they were blued in color.

Your barrel is probably original unless you have proof otherwise.
 
I was told it was hand blued but I have no way to verify this as the last owner past away
The first four inches from the muzzle are silver
From there to the fore end stock there are circles of silver shining through

May not look the best ,but shoots well

It is probably just the original bluing wearing off. Maybe somewhere along the lines someone tried to "fix" or re blue it and it didn't work very well.

Do you have any pics of it?

That sounds like a possibility
I don't have any pictures
I'll have to find the tread to find how to post pictures
Only spend time on the computer to read this and a couple of other web pages
Time to expand my horizons

you need to talk to Chris in Black Diamond about his little stash, there may be a couple 54's in there if I recall too. He loves the feather weights and super grades. Almost got me started on the W's again....almost.

Nice toys kids.
