The Lebaron gun all look fine. I've seen at least 12-15 of them recently as I live close the the Ottawa store. I would still not buy one without a handpick though as actual shooting quality was all over the map.
The problem is, on many refurbs, the stock-to action fit is poor. There is often much lateral movement of the action in the stock (fore to aft) on some of the refurbs, while others are nice and tight. I doubt the same factory did all the reworks as some are much more nicely done than others.
Also, for a shooter, I would want to select a chrome-lined 1952 or later gun. The pre-52's at Lebaron are usually refurbs with original non-chromed bores and wear and condition of those bores varies widely.
If I had to buy mailorder, I would pay a little more and order from P&S, Weimajack or Westrifle. Those guys all hand select and have generally better quality rifles than what the morons working at Lebaron will "hand select" for you.
It's up to you, but mail order from a bulk seller is like playing Russian Roulette
