I want to order 2 SKS's from Lebaron on Monday. I usually like to hold the gun before I buy, but it is a 5 hour drive, one way, to the closest Lebaron. Has anyone ordered an SKS from them? Were you happy with the rifle they chose for you? I want to get 1 in wood and 1 laminate. What, if any, is the condition difference between the two from Lebaron? Any other comments are greatly appreciated.

Usually they are crap from there. I would go with Tradeex.

No issues. My rifles consider collectible because those in great shape. Those do shoot and pretty good read our review.
Send me an email at info@westrifle.com we can chat

With all due respect, I'm sure Westrifles has high quality, collectable rifles and that's cool if that's what your into. I'm looking for guns to shoot and not hang on the wall or keep hidden in a safe.

The SKS rifles I looked over at LeBaron's were decent. Certainly not highly collectable models. They were in decent shape, mostly refurbed, ideal for a shooter, especially at that price.

Mine sure wasn't crap. Either was another guy's from the range. All matching numbers, silver bolt, good bore...to be honest, it looked almost brand new...

Not knocking westrifle's SKSs but don't discount Le Baron's. They are great rifles. Don't see why mine wouldn't be a collectable item. (not that I care though)

I never said that yours were crap. I am sure lebaron has great SKS. I just have higher standard when I pick mine out, thus handpicked. There is many people that sell SKS now. As far as I know we are the only one that handpick those.

Check out this thread - I bought mine from LeBaron last week - pics...
If you're just looking to pick up a cheap rifle to get into the SKS style, this is a great way to learn. I paid $210 taxes in - but I'm in Markham and they're only 5 minutes away...

However, I do believe that the Westrifle folks have great knowledge on the product - if you're ordering online/mail order anyways, it may be the way to go.

Thanks for posting the great pics. Was the gun that clean when you bought iit? I wish you could pick me out a couple of rifles and send them to me. I think we both are looking for the same kind of condition.

The Lebaron gun all look fine. I've seen at least 12-15 of them recently as I live close the the Ottawa store. I would still not buy one without a handpick though as actual shooting quality was all over the map.

The problem is, on many refurbs, the stock-to action fit is poor. There is often much lateral movement of the action in the stock (fore to aft) on some of the refurbs, while others are nice and tight. I doubt the same factory did all the reworks as some are much more nicely done than others.

Also, for a shooter, I would want to select a chrome-lined 1952 or later gun. The pre-52's at Lebaron are usually refurbs with original non-chromed bores and wear and condition of those bores varies widely.

If I had to buy mailorder, I would pay a little more and order from P&S, Weimajack or Westrifle. Those guys all hand select and have generally better quality rifles than what the morons working at Lebaron will "hand select" for you.

It's up to you, but mail order from a bulk seller is like playing Russian Roulette ;)

Thanks for your thoughts. I have been talking to Lebaron in Montreal and have been told the mailorder comes from their Montreal store. They have 1955 Chrome lined Simonovs in wood and laminate. The gentleman I spoke to assured me the guns were all very good to excellent.
I respect your opinion, and yes, I would rather choose my rifle in person, but I can't justify driving 10 hours return to hand pick it. Sometimes you have to trust that the gun gods will look out for you.

I was at Le Baron's in Mississauaga yesterday. I went the just for the SKS' but to behonest, I just didnt like what I saw. Yes $185 is a great price and I am sure you get what you pay for. But these SKS' just didnt do it for me. I will wait until I have a bit more cash to spend and buy from CGN.

Don't get me wrong dude, I can seriously see the attraction to the SKS, just after shouldering one and having a look at it, they just aren't for me.
