Has only gone through barrel break in,no real load development, but it SHOOTS...well.
The 6BR is a hard cartridge to beat.

That's some great looking equipment. Got to shoot a 6BR at the DCRA once
(900M) and could have slept while shooting a possible. What a great little cartridge! The rifle belonged to a fellow that would only buy green bananas.
His name was J. J. Conway. As far as I know, the first to bring the BR to Canada

J. J. shot a weird looking rifle, but nothing as weird as that thing that belongs to ONT001.

Ivor loves it when you destroy a 600Y spotter like that, Ice-Pick!

I would

put pics of mine up but I have it torn appart at the moment. I have to order new action screws as well..........:(:(:(:(

Not sure exactly where I put them when I removed them. Been all thru my man cave and no idea...................:confused:

Ah I will blame it on the thieving cat.

I figure I may restock it as well some time, again. Time maybe for a new Robertson on it:confused:

I like that stock you have on yours Calvin. I know its more of a varminting stock then a benchrest stock, or something in-between. But it looks nice.

My target from last Friday, 100 yards (all measurements are outside to outside). I'm sure I'll only get better (and because we all need excuses, I would like to blame the wind just a little bit ;) - I don't know how strong it was, but it did blow over my chronograph once)

DSC00284.jpg

Targets 1 - 3 were with 65 gr Berger and Varget (33.5, 34 and 34.2 gr)
Targets 4 - 9 were with 66 gr Berger: even #'s with R-15 and odd #'s with Varget (33, 33.5 and 34). R-15 was about 50 - 75 fps slower than Varget

Make those shots count! Its OBI is worse than a 6.5X284 ...700-900 rounds maybe?

Very Nice rig , and I love what fast 20's do to varmints!!

20BR-IMPROVED notes

20BR-IMP design includes a LONG NECK design for extended barrel life.

Down range performance excedes the performance of the larger 6MMBR @ 600yds when comparing the reloading effeciency, 1/2 the recoil, higher BC, and better wind-bucking capabilites.

Regarding barrel errosion, 20BR IMPROVED is similar to a 22-250 Ackley or a 204RUGER with 35 Berger @ 4000 fps
with barrel life span varying based on how it's been used, managed and cared for.

The 6.5x284 barrel errosion issues are well documented and will also vary based on useage.

Neck lengh has SFA to do with barrel life only insofar as it trades brass for case capacity.

I agree that how a rifle is used and how it is allowed to heat up will affect the degree of erosion, and to that end, 6.5-284's used in competion shooting 20 round strings have a short useful life, but they still top out at 1000 - 1200. (I am chasing the lands on mine 5 thou every 100 rounds) You can only go down hill from there, and that is strictly the ratio of case capacity to the surface area of the case opeining.

I am a very avid varmint hunter, with 300 acres of gopher infested heaven between me and my neighbour. I have worn out a new 204 Ruger barrel in a 3-day weekend (900 rounds) I also use many 6mm variants.

I'm not trying to dump on you... you have a very nice rifle indeed! It is nice to see someone do it RIGHT in everyting. It would be a coup to shoot a 900M F-Class match with a 204 bullet!!!!, but unfortunately based on your targets, the accuracy isn't there for competition. Our 300M V-Bull is .4 MOA .
