The NEW KING is taking off!

I was launching 300gr bullets at 2725fps from a 20" barrel the other day.

According to Lapua, it takes a 26" barrel to send 300gr bullets at 2723fps

Excuses Excuses :jerkit:

Although I am sure the Lapua is a better long range sniper cartridge than the NEW KING, this is largely irrelevant for hunters.

Unless you're hunting Taliban :p

.338's not being legal for dangerous game in Africa may be relevant to some hunters, though.;)

But one of 2 preferrred rounds for dangerous game in south central Asia. :D

I'm not trying to promote the Lapua, my point is that there is no REAL king. Each cartridge has their strengths and weaknesses. Some are better than others at what they are designed to do. The 375 H&H was originally designed as primarily an African round. Is the 375 Ruger better at stopping elephants... perhaps (haven't read anything on that subject yet) but there are better cartridges out there for doing that. Is the 375 Ruger the goto cartridge for splattering gophers? While I'm sure it would do an admirable job it's just not practical. The reason I brought up military rounds was that the majority of main stream hunting ammunition started out as a military cartridge (30-06spr, 308win, 223Rem, 7X57mauser, 6.5X55sw etc.) Military= lotsa ammo= cheap ammo=popular, not that I'm saying all popular cartridges are military based. For the most part I feel that 375 & up (and this is just my opinion), with the exception of Alaskan bruins, is too much gun for North American game. I had a 375 H&H and found it too much for just about everything. I got rid of it and got something more reasonable. So to call the 375 Ruger king of the 375's is a bit arrogant as there are 375 cartidges that do things better than the Ruger and if you point out the popularity of Ruger I'm sure it still has a way to go before there are more Rugers in the world than H&H's. On the day this is surpassed then you can call the Ruger king over the H&H and I'm sure it will give you a nice warm fuzzy. Until then enjoy the king of the molehill.
As for the 50BMG I hear Tikka is chambering the T3 lite for it

King? I thought we lived in an autonimous collective. You're fooling yourself we live a dictatorship. Well I didn't vote for him.

What excuse? The Ruger matched the velocity of the Lapua with a 300gr bullet with a shorter barrel. Where is YOUR excuse?:p

Wrong forum.. You should go to the airsoft forum.:p

Well, yeah- There is. Haven't you been paying attention?

Majority of mainstream hunting ammo is from military? You've got to be kidding. Go look at the ammo shelves of a hunting store. Sure there is going to be military based cartridges but there is going to be a much bigger selection of .270, 7RM. 300WM, .243, 300WSM, .338WM, ammo than there will be for the 7x57 or 6.5 or .303....NONE of the belted cartridges are based on military cartridges, either!

For the most part I feel that 375 & up (and this is just my opinion), with the exception of Alaskan bruins, is too much gun for North American game. I had a 375 H&H and found it too much for just about everything. I got rid of it and got something more reasonable.

And a .338 Lapua is more reasonable?

Everything over a .30-06 is probably too much gun if you want to only be "reasonable"

So to call the 375 Ruger king of the 375's is a bit arrogant as there are 375 cartidges that do things better than the Ruger and if you point out the popularity of Ruger I'm sure it still has a way to go before there are more Rugers in the world than H&H's. You must have skipped over the last 1000 posts...This has already been dealt with.

The .375 Ruger is the NEW KING of the .375's.....Get over it, the decision has already been made some time ago. You weren't consulted because nobody cares about your opinion.

dejected that I missed out on the African at my local shop, I hung my head and browsed the reloading section. Had to look twice when I seen four boxes of KING brass on the shelf!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) long live the KING!

Based on passed and current sales (as well as projected sales), it is only a matter of a relatively short time until the .375 Ruger surpasses the number of .375 H&H.

I believe that in 1987, some very talented and visionary musicians wrote a song about the demise of the poor .375 H&H. I get happy feet everytime that tune plays!

Was (Not Was) : Kill the Dinosaur song Lyrics

Open the door get on the floor
Ruger's gonna kill the dinosaur
Open the door get on the floor
Ruger's gonna kill the dinosaur

boom boom acka lacko boom boom
boom boom acka lacko boom boom

We all know who the dinosaur is...:)

I did see a couple bags of Remington 375 H&H there too, but had to wipe the dust off the label to see what the contents actually were. LOL
