there is a "used" but never fired African 375 Ruger FS (with no rings or box) for $699.99+tax at the local shop.................tempting!!!!!!!!!!!!!

good rifle for a guy wanting to try out a 375!

crap! I went in to take another look at it and its gone!!! I guess Im not the only one who would be interested in the King!

Yes, all hail the new King, the 338 Lapua! The Lapua will hurl a 300gr pill faster (if only slightly) and more accurately than the Ruger 375. Plus the Lapua has one distinct advantage over a Ruger and that is military adaptation. Although still expensive, Lapua brass is much easier to find and will become cheaper as more armed forces adapt it. Yeah, the Ruger 375 maybe arguably the king of the 375's but that just makes it the world's tallest midget.

This makes no sense whatsoever... :p

I was launching 300gr bullets at 2725fps from a 20" barrel the other day.

According to Lapua, it takes a 26" barrel to send 300gr bullets at 2723fps

Although I am sure the Lapua is a better long range sniper cartridge than the NEW KING, this is largely irrelevant for hunters.

.338's not being legal for dangerous game in Africa may be relevant to some hunters, though.;)

ALL HAIL THE NEW KING!!

Oh please, the .338 La-poo-a is so banal.:dancingbanana: Sure, it has military applications, but it needs an 83 inch barrel and a 36 pound platform to give any kind of performance and be stable enough to shoot accurately. Might as well use a 105mm howitzer, really... We are discussing a hunting firearm here, and the .375 Ruger has the La-poo-a beaten hands down, no comparison and definitely no competition.

Frankly, if we want to talk midgets (and I know we all do!), the .338 La-poo-a is a dwarf when compared to the .50 BMG (Big Motherloving Gun). .50 BMG, now we are talking about a gun, not that little mosquito .338 La-poo-a!!! But hey, that's not a hunting rifle either!!!

Let's not confuse hunting and shooting, and let's not bring in military, long distance shooting and mall ninjaying into the mix, thanks.:D

Especially not after all the lip service it's been getting on CGN! I would not be surprised to find out that Gatehouse is getting a comission from Ruger for every sale of a .375 Ruger, The King of .375's. :)

I felt it was relevant to post Ruger initial news clip on the release of hte New King of .365's. Courtesy of the Internet and credit given to whoever deserves it, wherever they are, so there.

Sturm, Ruger Announces M77® Hawkeye® Rifles Chambered in the New .375 Ruger Caliber

Sturm, Ruger Press Release

Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR), the nation's largest firearms manufacturer, is proud to announce the introduction of two new Ruger® M77 Hawkeye rifles chambered in the new .375 Ruger. The cartridge, co-developed with Hornady Manufacturing, perfectly fits the Ruger standard length action, the same one used for .270 Winchester and .30-'06 Springfield. The new cartridge delivers performance from a 20" barrel that equals the venerable .375 H&H from a longer magnum-length action with a 24" barrel.

The M77 Hawkeye "Alaskan" chambered in .375 Ruger features a matte black finish, a handy 20" barrel, and a Hogue® OverMolded™ synthetic stock. It will be available in early 2007. The M77 Hawkeye "African," also in .375 Ruger and available in early 2007, features a 23" blued barrel and checkered walnut stock. A left-handed "African" model will be available in mid-2007.

"We are extremely excited about this new co-development between Ruger and Hornady," said Sturm, Ruger President, Stephen L. Sanetti. "The .375 Ruger cartridge has already been tested in Africa by both Ruger and Hornady staff with excellent results. The shorter-barreled 'Alaskan' rifle is the perfect gun where quick handling and hard-hitting cartridges are needed, while the 'African' rifle will provide the same performance in a classic hunter's rifle."

Both rifles feature windage adjustable shallow "V" notch rear sights and large white bead front sights for instant sight alignment. They also are delivered with Ruger's patented scope rings, allowing the shooter to choose which optics to install on the integral mounts. Both rifles also have new, more effective recoil pads and new light and crisp Ruger LC6™ triggers.

Thak you Ruger for making such a fantastic rifle!

Why would anyone post anything about a .338 Lap-wah? That cartridge is just a snooty exotic that can't do anything a plain old .338 RUM can. This thread is for manly .375 discussion. Keep your 25lb 36" overpriced, impractical, ego inflating, small ##### compensating Lapuas outta here. And it IS pronounced Lap-Wah and you can't convince me otherwise.

Words not minced... Don't forget to mention that a real man would have his .338 La-puta Ackley Improved because that make's all the difference in the world. The bonus is that then you get to use cream of wheat to blow out your cases. Geeez them are manly words, cream of wheat and blow...;)

My most potent form manliness is expressed with cream of wheat and toilet paper.

Hows that for a real he-man type? Blowing cream of wheat and bum wipe out of my pipe.

Not sure who's it is, but, I like this one...

The .375 Ruger doesn't have a 'parent' case.

It was an immaculate conception.:dancingbanana:

Immaculate conception ?? I thought that was a "girl" thing, and yes I nearly spilled my tea !
Actually the 375 Ruger is very similar to the 8x68s and also a wildcat 375 on the blown-out 30 Newton, the name of which escapes me.
I must do some measuring...
