PAL "in progress"

Where do you buy handguns in Regina? Are there any shops with much new or used in stock? I'm not far from Saskatoon, which at least has Wholesale for buying ammo, etc. But they don't have much in stock for handguns.

I thought there was 4 or 5 gun shops in saskatoon... PA has badger arms.. You have a better selection there than we do around here..I think wholsale sports is opening up here in a few weeks so the pickings should get better.

Does anyone know if the website ever says anything besides "Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date." or "Your card is in the mail."?

They received mine on the 9th of April. Both my references have called in and I have done my interview. And it still says "Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date."

Seems a little vague and pointless. It doesn't make sense to me to have a service like this that gives out so little information or updates so infrequently.

I checked my status 10 min ago and now it says that they received my app on April 26! Wheh, I was worried cuz I sent it by snail mail. Well, I just called them to ask if they miss any information. The lady told me that it takes from two to three weeks to actually process apps now and cue is really long because of the volume of applications they received and they just finished the initial process (aka putting my personal info to computer). So, she has nothing to talk to me about yet, :) I will wait for two weeks and if they will not contact me or my refs during this time, I will call them again. :)

Continue to call the nice lady. ;)

Looking for some advice

My application was received on February 12th and its still " It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date".

I called 1 800 731-4000 "If you have questions about the status of your application please contact ...". The person I spoke to said it was with the Alberta CFO and they have no idea when my application will finish processing. Is there anything else I can do?

I know that some people have been waiting far longer than myself. I would however like an explanation from a human being working for the government why my application is sitting somewhere while others are being processed and sent out within 45 days.

Somebody here said that you actually can call the provincial CFO office if you have a file number. Obviously, your app went through and nothing wrong with it otherwise they would not transfer it to the local CFO. But I may be wrong. I hope more experienced members will chime in!

To get my file number would I call the 1 800 number again and just ask for it? Also, I can't seem to find the Alberta CFO's number - does anyone know it off hand?

Phone Alberta CFO, others get theirs done faster because they are proactive. Here is some more info on how to move it along:

Part of the advice means you must ignore what the CFC tells you.

Same thing happend with mine, it was receved and treated by Miramichi and sent to the Québec CFO in Montreal (ironically it has to travel all the way to NB so it can be shipped out again to a place I can actually see from my windows). The first time I called was right after the expiration of the 28th day waiting period and they told me it was already in Montreal wich was normal procedure. I didn't push for more. Fastforward 20 or so days after I called back and got the same awnser. However this time around I pushed a little bit and was given the extention number of the Quebec CFO (it's 7005 for those who could use it) and I called them I talk to someone (wich by the way was the first time I could exercice my constitution given right to have service in french ;) who after some waiting got the actual file of my application. About 10 min after I hung up with him my girlfriend got a call from the CFO and after a few question she was told to told me that my application was in the mail.

So I have no idea how long it could have taken otherwise but calling and talking to someone who has your file at your local CFO REALLY helped.

hope this help.

It is the CFC 1-800 number, they transfer you to the Alta. CFO, but they won't do that today; Wednesday is Alberta CFO application processing day and they don't take calls.

Here's my timeline. Challenged the non-restricted and restricted exams on March 14. Mailed off the PAL and RPAL application on March 15. Approved on April 27. Card received today, May 5.

Overall, that's not to bad, IMO. The Sask. CFO office proved to be very helpful and efficient. Kudos to them.

I took my courses the 26th and 27th of March ... waited 6 weeks for my stamps to come back - but mailed my application on the 30th of April because Kim at the CFC said I could send it in without the stamps and fax them later. Of course my stamps arrived the following day...

My application arrived in Miramichi yesterday ... I'm going to call today to make sure they got it and hopefully fax off my verified safety info tomorrow! Yippeeee!!

send my Application on April 30 . It was received on May 3 which i checked with Canada Post.
So today May 6 i call'd to see if they received my Application (even so i now they did) and the Woman tells me that i'm not in the System yet and it can take up to 3 Weeks for that.

Do i just keep calling until i'm in the System ?

You must have got the same person I did. She said that they put it into "bins" and that they get processed when they get processed.

I need to fax in my verification - but I need them to get my app started first.

I was wondering what I should do too ... although she told me to call back on Monday.

Call'd in again this morning to see if they could confirm delivery.

After giving the Info needed I got told again it can take up to 3 Weeks to have you entered into the System.
