All right I'm a little new at this so bear with me. but from what i've read a 300win mag and a 338 win mag has the same OAL and bolt face size as the 375 ruger. please correct me if i'm wrong but if i'm right would that not make them good canadidates to be rebored and chambered to a 375 ruger.

I don't see why I have to. Free country and all that.....

I'm 6'0" 220lbs. Plenty strong and have worked with my hands my entire life. But when it comes to rifles with recoil beyond a 300 Win Mag I CHOOSE to use a muzzle brake. The purchase of the brake keeps someone employed, the installation makes someone else some money to. But in the end this awesome thread has become the "I hate brakes" thread. What is so hard for some members here to get through their thick skulls that a braked firearm is still a firearm. And the simple existance of another firearm is one more anti-Liberal symbol. What do you guys do when the Black Rifle crowd shows up shooting rifles with flash suppressors that are almost as loud as brakes and some M14's for exampl have replaced the suppressors with actual brakes? Snub them too?

.

I also dislike detachable magazines on hunting rifles, and prefer hinged floorplates. Is there somehow you can tie that into "firearms owner unity" and "discrimination" and an inferiority complex too?
:p:p

I can't believe you guys here are sticking to your ideas about hating brakes. I must've read you characters way wrong from reading your posts over that last number of months. Some people just have closed minds I guess. I know if I had a closed mind regarding 375's I'd have never considered anything but an H&H because it's history preceeds it wherever it goes. But my mind is always open to new things so eventually I will get a LH 375 Ruger with a brake on it. That way you will recognize me out in the field

It is not having a closed mind that makes me hate brakes, it's the fact they are LOUD and can give you permanent hearing damage, even when wearing ear protection.

You could rebarrel them. I wouldn't bother reboring

Couldn't care less if one wants one, as I've said in every comment of mine, just that they're not suited for hunting. They pick up sticks, snow, and mud with brutal effectiveness in field conditions, especially crawling through underbrush. Not cool. I have no wish to marginalize any hunter that chooses to use a brake, not what I'm out to do. In niche applications, like the disabled? Sure, makes sense. Long range target shooting, with long prone shooting strings, and the wish to spot hits through the scope? Sure, makes sense, same for .50 BMG because without one there you face physical injury.

But for just a .338 Win Mag, or .375? Naw, my 115lb wife shoots my unbraked .375 H&H, a brake would make it worse for her due to perceived blast. This has turned into a sh1tfight in a hurry. :p Not trying to slander any type of shooters, just point out that a brake isn't a useful device in 99% of hunting situations, something better done without. There's a good chance your PH if you ever made it to Africa would ask you to take the brake off, if possible, or use a loaner unbraked rifle. However, I respect your choice for the bass boat, I caught some bass in Africa too! ;) NOW we're truly off topic! Who'd of thought I'd be posting a picture of a bass in the .375 thread by the end of this, eh?

Quebec company too! I'll be sending them some business for sure.

If it's not a closed mind Gate then it's just a lack of knowledge about guns then. :p And my countless hours includes research and more than one caliber. See, I own more than just one braked rifle in various calibers. But do me a favour Gate, if we are ever shooting together don't toss my spare mags for my Tikkas in the bush!

There's a good chance your PH if you ever made it to Africa would ask you to take the brake off, if possible, or use a loaner unbraked rifle.

If I'm paying the bills the brake stays on, period! Money still talks in this namby-pamby politically correct your gun hurts my ears crybaby go green ### rights now world. And it ain't gonna change boys, ever.

Regardless of anyone's opinion on muzzle breaks (they suck!) Ruger did not feel a need for one on the .375 Ruger. That is because it is the King of .375's, not some princess.:)

Also- Unless building a custom rifle, you would have to remove the front sight to install a brake on the muzzle. Princess indeed....

It gets really interesting when the driver shoots a braked rifle from his seat out the passenger window of a vehicle. Good idea to let the dog out first.

Well that's just plain illegal in all of Canada.f:P:2:

It's interesting that you take these princess comments as directed towards you, yet they were both made during discussion of a rifle and the nickname "KING"

Very interesting....

:feedTroll:

Definitely not illegal, with permits.

I would spend the money on a lead sled if I couldn't handle the recoil, rather than have muzzle brakes installed on every one of my heavy recoil rifles.

But, I take my King as is. In all its glory.

Took it out again to the range again today. Working up a load with 4007ssc and 270 grain TSX's. Only loaded up to 76 grains of powder, and had it just over an inch. Max charge is 80.5 so next weekend Im going to approach carefully.

Hail to the King baby!

^ Jason you realize there are ways to overcome your fear of recoil, eh? Without installing a brake.

Spend some quality time on the bench shooting hot loads out of a Marlin M1895 Guide Gun. That's a good start. After a few sessions behind one of those, everything else seems easy, even the .416's and on up.

Consider me a Neanderthal for this, but brakes are not required. I shoot the afore-mentioned Guide Gun, a .338WM that weighs under 7lbs, a .416RM, a .458 Lott etc...

I have fired loads out of the Lott that clock 83ft/lbs of recoil. That'll get your attention.

Oh by the way... any of those are toys compared to what the serious recoil guys handle. Some of the zealots on A/R shoot stuff that make me flinch just reading it...

Jason S you are wrong and misinformed. Handicapped persons with a permit are allowed to shoot out the window of a vehicle in BC.

Some real recoil absorbing he men on the board tonight. Nice that some of you can suck it up.

I'm glad someone said that! Yes, with a permit. So as a society of hunters we can make allowances for a handicapped hunter (I guess as long as he doesn't use a muzzle brake he's ok by you guys:p) but what's the definition of hanicap? You might have to go through a history of my posts and find where I mentioned my severe osteoarthritis. And that from many years of busting clay targets competetively and playing 30+ rounds of golf per year my left shoulder is ruined. Now an X-Ray I had shows my spine has an anomaly. My T11, T12, and L1 are touching. Zero disc material and some protruding osteophytes. I have an MRI that I'm paying for to speed things up on Friday May 10th. I'm paying because in my mind I want to know if I have Spinal Stenosis like my mother developed. This spinal anomaly is identified as congenital. So chances are I inherited it from my mom. It's just that hers is now at a stage needing surgery and she's 75. Mine advanced quicker, I'm 45. So sorry boys if I been chirping outta turn it's not you guys it my situation. I've been off work since March 15th buy not losing pay because of benefits thank God. So come Friday I might know my near future regarding surgery. But given the pains in both legs, feet, and my back I'm sure I'll need to go under the knife. Sorry for pissing and moaning to you guys.

On a good note, last summer I did shoot 20 rounds out of a 450 Marlin Guide Gun while the owner shot some of my stuff. Thought it was no big deal.
