Furlong Dethroned?????

Three hits (two kills) at 1.54 MILES no sighters. Sorry I'm having a problem with this story!!. I've read a bit of the stuff floating around the net on this feat and this story just smells bad to me. The odds are huge that it could not happen once let alone twice.
Or three times if you count wrecking the machine gun!! Kind of like getting hit by a meteor (twice in the same day). possible but unlikely. Seems like a huge publicity stunt to advance the image of those involved to the people back home. But who knows other than the guy on the end of the trigger??
 
As I have said before....all we have is the tabloid news story and people are trying to critic it. Wait for the official statement. I am not ready to discount anything until we have some details. This mental masterbation over the few details that are available is useless. We have no facts, just a tabloid story...
 
I will give it the benefit of the doubt till the official reports come out. As to hitting the machine gun, well even a rock sent up from a bullet impact on the ground could knock something loose. All you need to do is damage the top cover, the belt feed, the trigger group, maybe knock off the butt stock. A ricochet could take care of that.

When the report comes out we will all find out.
 
Yes I can hardly wait for the official military report. It will be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth - as always.:rolleyes:

Of course he doesn't. He has been skeptical from the start and made nothing but smart ass comments. He must be a professional and speaks from operational experience...right!
 
You all know the most hilarious part about all this?

If you went up to Furlong right now, and mentioned this to him... He would probably shrug and then forget about it 12 seconds later. We're the ones fussing over it. :D

You are right. How is he dethroned anyway. I didn't think it was a contest or a game. If the brit made those shots and it's confirmed good on him. Like Ross said the good guys took out some bad guys and thats all that matters, in both cases.

Would it make you feel better if I acted like a sheep and followed along with all the believers? I suppose I could regurgitate data from a ballistics program in support of such a feat. But alas, I do not believe the claim, nor will I believe those whose role is that of confirmation of the hits. Perhaps this is where we differ.

Impossible feat without the new Burger bullets.

Apparently, the sniper in question has said in a BBC interview that it took him nine (yes 9) shots to get on target. The first hit that was a kill, and the following two shots were hits (including a second kill).

of course you could make it with your always 1/4 MOA rifle with existing bullets...
