Hunting with Body armor ?

Having worn body armour on deployment and training....a soft armour vest is NOT going to stop 99% of the hunting rifle calibers out there. You have to wear hard armour to defeat rifle cartridges up to 3006/7.62x54 AP. It won't do much for higher calibers...

The armour I wore overseas without anything else ran about 40 lbs. Have fun humping that in the bush.

IMHO, if you or your family are concerned that you might be shot while hunting...as a greater likelihood than a car accident, heart attack or drowning in a swimming pool...then you likely need to education yourself on the real risks. Hey, if you want to wear an extra 40lbs to go hunting...have at it but if you feel you need it...best you head somewhere else to hunt or take up another activity.

Yeah it is Troy Hurtubise. The documentary is Project Grizzly. The problem was that he was unable to move well enough to confront a bear in order to test the suit. According to Wikipedia, he is now making suits to try to sell to the military.

first off, it was not a joke, I was asking seriouly if other hunter use armor(I dont but the wife asked me if it would be safer...). The reason to ask is simply because it has happen in the past and people got killed by idiot shooting at movement in the bush. Also, because hunting season with gun is only 10 days so a lot of people during a short time and some of them doesnt respect land boundary.

Statistically I am sure it is a better idea to where a helmet while driving to your hunting spot. Chances of getting in a bad car crash are much greater.

There is an inherient risk to pretty much everything...worry about the ones that are more likely to happen.

ie...wear a safety harness in treestand..

I heard that insurance statistics show its safer to go hunting than to swim in a lake. The greatest risk is likely the one's you impose on yourself and can control, like getting lost or injured.
