So with our range renovations nearing completion it's time to start talking IPSC at Abby Fish and Game. In the past with the help of guys like Clint M, Darryl I, Chris Y and others I've forgotten, we ran some indoor club matches. Well that's about to change. I will be starting an IPSC club there this fall (with the Abby BOD approval of course). We will have 1 newly reno'd indoor, and 3 maybe 4 outdoor pads, 2 of which we can actually do temp splits on with containers. That will give us possibly 7 ranges to use.
So for those of you in the area, who've long lamented no IPSC at the club, what does this mean? Well it means I'm going to need help, and lots of it. We are going to need to drum up some money for props, I'd like to get 20 poppers and 20 mini poppers (the kind that can be both forward falling and rearward falling), 20 plates, some swingers, drop turners etc. Plus we'll need to build stands, and buy targets/tape.
Who's gonna step up? without a lot of help, this is just a pipe dream. For those of you who attended the match that Cam and I ran a few years ago, you have an idea on what to expect for our first Qualifier (no dates even thought of yet). But expect to see cool ####, with real shooting challenges, nothing crazy, and fully acceptable in the rule book, just stuff that people don't do much anymore.
post here if you intend to help out, or have useful ideas (remember I'm and Admin, if you make stupid comments in this thread I'll ban you) *kidding*

I don't own a pistol (yet), but I'd love to see IPSC hit Abbotsford. We'll give you a shout on our podcast and see if we can drum a little help up for you. I might be able to volunteer a little time, but I'm IPSC-ignorant and flat broke at the moment so there would be some hand holding :p

You can place me in the 'warm body' category. It is a excellent idea to have a third active IPSC club in the lower mainland. I am a little confused about the money side. Is start-up monies not available via IPSC BC, Canada and/or Abbotsford F&G?

never heard of seed money from any of the IPSC orgs, that would probably be hard for them to do. AFGC might help us with a loan for props, and maybe even some seed money, but we're gonna have to be self sufficient for the most part. Stands and steel are the pricey part. Paper is bugger all. Once we have quality steel targets (and I want them able to handle rifle, not just pistol), we'll be good to go. I'd like to start doing Qualifiers in the spring. Which means warm bodies will be appreciated.

This would be great, if I find out more info about the target things I might be able to see if the company I'm working for could give a good deal to get targets made.

the biggest expense to targets is the steel, then the cutting and finally welding. Welding we can do ourselves (Tiwaz!). Some clubs have members that work at fabrication shops that routinely use AR500 and 400 to make things for the mining industry etc, and can get scraps that are just perfect for targets. We, as far as I know, don't have that luxury. I don't want to spend a bunch of money on mild steel targets, only to have to replace them in a year or so. However, if we can get some free targets made from non AR400-500 stuff, we'll happily take them.

Wow Rob that looks like its going to be one heck of a nice facility! Look forward to see future progress and how it evolves.

if we can generate the membership and interest there is still room for more expansion. But that means even more money.

Looking good.

I stopped in the Abbotsford range today and I have to say wow, what a improvement. The indoor range is VERY nice and the outdoor bays (ranges) are much better than I expected. As soon as BC Hydro and the electrician finish bringing in the 400 amp service, I think the indoor range will be open for business. Slavex, I think we need some updated pix's.

I have a bunch on the abby facebook page but will throw more up tonight.
Its gonna rock.

That's the plan. At least one, double qualifier. Not sure yet. And I plan on doing things different. Online sign up and pay. Pick your own squads (with limitations due to CRO/RO need). Cadets doing patching setting steel etc.
