Help with buying restricted firearm! (Glock 17)

Yeah go see the process involved in getting in, and how long you will have to wait!

Actually, the with our walk-in process, we're turning about 20-odd members per course and the average new member completes their observation period in under a month.

Then come join Silverdale! LOL

Its a great club and it has its advantages. But I'd rather be shooting at 9:00pm on a week night November to March (in a light sweater) than sitting at home on the computer. Which is why so many of our members join both. The clubs are quite complementary.

What two clubs do your members join? Silverdale and What? Thank you in advance for all your help.

The biggest problem is Burlington has a major rep for being seriously anal... that turns off a pile of people.. whom prefer the straight forward no BS of Silverdale.

So when is the next opening for your new members course? I know it is months away, but yes you can come and hope that someone doesnt show up. Problem is if I live an hour away Im not gonna drive 2 hours just to find out that everyone scheduled to show up did and there isnt a spot for me.

And like others have said there is issues with anal retentive rules and regulations.

And then there is the issue of timing. I dont shoot at crazy hours in the night, and my days are always busy leaving evenings open for shooting. Is there not scheduled events and practices almost every weeknight?

where are you located?

ontario, but i was trying to order from a shop in bc.

he asked do you have a club membership and i replied no still looking around. then asked if i had an att to which i replied no and he said he couldnt sell it to me until i have an att and membership

Did you say you are in Ontario and those are not required here to purchase a firearm. Only the PAL/RPAL is.

BRRC. Silverdale has outdoor ranges and clays, Burlington is heated has night time leagues and 24/7 access.

While BRRC does have a more restrictive entry policy, its also not a for-profit-range. Different operating model and costs. And if you take the time to look, after Silverdale, BRRC has the least restrictive policies of any range in the GNA or the western GTA. And you can shoot by yourself. So the reputation for being anal is unwarranted if you do the research. With 1500+ members and growing, we can't be turning that many people off.

I don't have the numbers from last weekends course, but typically its 50% walk-in, 50% pre-scheduled. There is seasonal variation in this, but the odds are in your favour. Next course is Sept 25/26.

There are. But there's nothing to stop you from participating in any of them. Can you shoot at night Nov-Mar at Silverdale? Isn't it daylight only?

Fair enough.. though I should stipulate the info I have about it is from others here (and off this board).. I have not been there yet myself.

Oh and the closest to me is very anal.. though there are worse (Peterpatch for example)

Im a member of the Frontenac pistol and rifle club and even though i had proof i was a member of a range , i had to purchase the pistol first , then they completed the transfer , sent the temporary to SFRC , took it home , then they send you a long term ATT from your range . Thats what was involved in my situation .

i said i'll take that one. they said ok. put in the transfer faxed my memerbship off called her on teh phone an hour later and they faxed my my st and LTatt's and off i went to teh range to shoot for teh afternoon... i think it's a rare thing when it happens but i was happy

They cannot force you to do that actually.. since it is perfectly legal to get a LTATT even w/o owning any guns. Whomever told you that at the CFO/CFC was not well trained (big shock).

So you can join a gun club out west, while living in Ontario, for $30? And then pay drop in fees? Interesting...

I'm not 100% sure that the CFO will ok it since they seem to pick and choose how they are going to enforce laws. However I haven't seen anywhere that it say your club must be in your province. Just that you must be a member of a club or range to get an ATT. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. You would just need to make sure that your ATT says you can transport to all recognized ranges.

Edit: I also didnt notice that the OP was in ontario when I recomended Silvercore.
