My current 686 which locked solid when shot only 38 specials, started to have discernible looseness after only 100 magnums.

Get a 4.2" Ruger GP100. They are the sweetest revolvers being made right now. I have the 6" and it's nice too.![]()
Once you but a wolf spring kit into a 686 it really close to a python.
Your local shop can probably order a spring kit for you from Wolf or Brownells, or you can do it yourself. They come with a reduced power mainspring and several different rebound springs so you can choose the one that works best in your gun. Installation isn't difficult if you're comfortable removing the side plate.Interesting...

So what's the difference in shooting between a 4 and 6" barrel on the GP100? Does it change the recoil at all?
