OK I am bragging.....mount pics posted

Thanks for all the good wishes folks! :)

Yes I am very thankful that I had the good fortune to take this buck. As the saying goes, better lucky than skilful! ;)

Nice buck , Doug...but don't know if it is kopocetic to flush the beast out of the bush, choking and gagging from the toxic fumes wafting from your emergency dump in the woods...and then to poke him with a sharp stick while he is blinded by tears pouring from his eyes....I don't know...
Did you ever get him measured?

I suppose it is true that chemical warfare is outlawed under the Geneva Convention.........but I don't think Bucky was a signatory to that!

The head is still with a taxidermist, and when I get it back I am going to get a FROW measurer to put the tape to it. As much as it offends my instincts as a fisherman - if there is no official record, the buck can quite properly grow as the years go by....... :p

Bragging is your right!!

So what did that beast score??? You should contact Big Buck Mag, we need a CGN'er in its pages :D

Doug - First congrats on that brute!! You can certainly brag it up - you earned the rigth after 40 years! Second, my new friend scott_r is right! You should contact Big Bucks magazine with this story. There aren't many big deer stories out of Ontario and I don't recall any from your neck of the woods!! Third, you continue to be honourable and honest. Breaking one's own tenets although making a clean kill and then admitting to the world (okay - CGN) is not something everyone can or will do. It is what I have admired about you the 25+ years I have known you!!

Again - Congrats and brag it up!!

Thanks Ted, those are very kind words indeed.

The head is still with a local taxidermist, although I was thinking recently that I should contact him and ask how he is making out. Once it is back I plan to get it scored, probably by CGN's own Rick Teal.

There is a magazine here in Ontario called Ontario Monster Whitetails, or a similar name, and at somebody's suggestion when I shot the buck I did contact them and never heard back. It is a big buck, but honestly I don't think he is a record book buck at all.

Best regards,

Doug

Doug...I thought most taxidermists have a person from FROW, come to their shops and measure the bigger, more notably bucks after the season closes.

That is what happens around here anyways. ;)

Sorry...for those who don't know...FROW is: Foundation for the Recognition of Ontario Wildlife. The Ont. record book.

The taxidermist to whom I entrusted the mount is a rather "colourful" lad and I dearly hope that the mount comes back OK. I saw some of his work and that is why I went to him. (Well, honestly, the fellow who has done all of my previous work is so much in demand that I would wait three to four YEARS to get it back......) I am going to guess that FROW does not send a scorer out to see the guy who has my buck head.

Rick Teal is in fact a FROW scorer and that is who I asked to do the scoring, back in November when I shot the buck. Rick agreed to score it, probably at oen of the spring gun shows like Perth which both of us attend.

Sorry for digging up an old thread but I think there's some value here, particularity in the MIA photos of the mount....Doug? Doug?

Also, did Rick Teal get a chance to score your buck? If so, what was it? And gar an teed it made the books. 130 and up for P&Y...150 and up for B&C - correct? That's gotta be a least a 150 class deer??

Looking for answers Doug..:D

I actually just got the mount back a couple weeks ago, and the taxidermist did an excellent job. I should be able to get some pictures up if my oldest son can figure out how to "UNFIX" the "IMPROVEMENT" that my middle son did to my computer without my knowledge or approval.........

Rick has not seen the mount, and no, it has not been scored yet.

By far, the funniest thing I've heard today.

Thanks.

Did I tell you about the buck I shot last year? He was a MONSTER. It took eight of us to drag him out of the swamp, and one of them, a professional wrestler, estimated the deer's weight at four hundred pounds, field dressed. By using the normal field calculations, that means that the beast would have been well north of five hundred pounds on the hoof!!! If you don't believe me, ask the blind cop on the corner, he saw it all.

:p
