Hey folks, I did a search, and came up with nothing.

I want to take off the folding stock off mycz858, and I know you have to take out that giant "slot" screw in the rear...... but with WHAT?!

I do not own a screw driver bit of that size, and it seems so tightly in there, that I need to whip out the impact gun! haha

So does anyone have any pointers, or a quick way for me to loosen that B**ch up??

Thanks!!

I've got a great big flat-bladed screwdriver with a 4 sided shank that came in a Craftsman set. I lean on the end of the screwdriver and turn it with a wrench.

Why not use your impact wrench?

a)I doubt I could hold it down strong enough not to strip the head, and b) I dont think I have the tip for it. I only have sockets.

so using the largest attachment in my mastercraft set, with a wrench to turn it, should be enough? (if I just apply enough pressure to hold it down)... or even a big screwdriver if I am feeling strong today?

It might. I had one that I had to put some heat to the bolt from the inside of the receiver before it would move. Just don't bugger the bolt head.

Do you have a bench vise you can pad to hold the receiver steady? That makes it a lot easier, unless you have extra hands around.

I was thinking of heating it, I have my little handy butane torch, this might work... lemme give it a shot (Yea I am doing it as I type lol)

lol I just managed to slightly burn myself, but no bolt movement.... I don't have a vice big enough to hold it.... not yet at least! lol

You don't need a real big vice. My vice only has about 4 inch jaws. It holds the rifle just ahead of the trigger guard quite nicely.

Put some penetrating oil to the threads and get a proper screwdriver. Either buy a big-ass one, preferably with a square or hex shank so you can apply torque to it with a wrench, or build one. Guys here have ground down the tip of a tire iron to get the correct profile. If you can get a proper sized bit for your impact it should make short work of it, too.

Yup, I think I need to get that tip for the Imapact...although I found that my tire iron has as already ideal tip.... now I just need to vice that mofo in there and giv'er....

I might wait though, the impact wrench would be a better idea for sure :)

The folder and fixed factory stocks use different bolts. The slot is the same in both so you can use the same tools on either, as long as they have enough reach to get into the factory fixed stock.

Does the folding stock bolt has a hole in it? If yes, you can just go to Princess Auto and get the Powerfist removal set which will drive a bit into the hole and you can screw it out easily.

I have the folder, and the folder only has a slot in the bolt. It is a solid bolt holding it in place against the receiver.... no hole, just a big honkin screw smiling back at me...mocking me.

Wow, OK, I will have that fun when I get my CSA rifle, assuming it has the same bolt. Sounds like a job for an impact screw driver, you know the big chunky one you hit with a hammer and it turns just a bit every time.

Sounds like a homemade tool lol. I have an impact gun my father bought on sale at Canuck Tire...it was able to take the seized bolts off a car wheel/hub, so why not a rifle stock bolt? :p

If it is the standard wood type stock.....go to your car open trunk....take out tire iron and use it to take the screw out. That's what I did!!!

Snap-on tools makes a flat blade socket bit made to work with a 3/8 drive. The part number on mine is GF22. The blade is the perfect width but is a bit thick. I ground mine down carefully until it fit the screw slot. I then use a long 3/8 drive extenstion with a ratchet to remove the full stock or a shorter extenstion with the ratchet to remove the folding stock. Putting the receiver in a padded vise helps to hold onto everything as the screws generally are very tight and come out hard.
